Chapter 1: A different start to school
Katrrine Anderson was entering her second year at More High School, the most prestigious high school in the city, thanks to a scholarship. For many, this school was synonymous with privilege and success, but for her, it was above all a way out of her difficult reality. His mother, Zara, was fighting against Alzheimer's disease, and life at home was just a series of overwhelming responsibilities.
This purse represented his only chance to escape this spiral one day. Sitting at the back of the classroom, Katrrine was watching her classmates distractedly. All seemed in their place in this environment, but she, although intelligent and hardworking, felt like a stranger.
Most of the students came from influential families, and Williams Adams, the director's son, was their leader. Tall, elegant, and intimidatingly beautiful, he was the student everyone admired or feared. Katrrine, meanwhile, preferred to keep a low profile. It had always been his means of survival.
But this year, something unexpected was going to upset this tranquility. In the first week, she was amazed to receive the best results in math, even surpassing Williams, who used to dominate all subjects. This little event quickly went around the school and attracted curious looks, including that of Williams himself.
One afternoon, as she recovered her things from her locker, she felt a presence behind her. She turned around and came face to face with Spencer, one of Williams' close friends, accompanied by a few other popular students. He was smiling, but there was something disturbing in his eyes.
"Looks like you're the new little genius," he said, playing with a book he had just snatched from her hands.
"Maybe you should help us with homework."
Katrrine, uncomfortable, tried to retrieve his book, but Spencer kept him out of reach.
"I…I don't do that stuff," she replied, trying to stay calm.
Spencer smiles even more widely.
"It's a shame. You better review your position."
Before the situation escalated, a familiar voice echoed. Williams Adams approached, arms crossed, staring at the scene with a disinterested look.
"Spencer, stop playing,"
he said in a calm but authoritative voice. Spencer, visibly upset at being interrupted, returned his book and walked away without a word. Katrrine whispered a quick
"thank you", but Williams only gave him an indifferent look before moving away too, as if what had just happened didn't matter.
Despite this brief exchange, the tension around Katrrine intensified over the days. Spencer and her friends were watching her closely, and she felt it was just the beginning of her troubles.
This first meeting with Williams and his entourage marked the beginning of a series of events that would upset Katrrine's calm and discreet life.
