Karthik, a tall 6'1" pediatric resident , had just started his first year of residency at a new medical college.
Having completed his MBBS at a different institution, everything felt unfamiliar and slightly overwhelming.
The fast-paced life of a pediatric resident, with its long hours and intense responsibilities, was something he was still getting used to.
Despite the demands, Karthik was focused and determined to excel in his field.

Sravani, completing her internship at the same hospital, was a 5'2" intern with honey-colored eyes and shoulder-length hair. her presence was striking in its own way.
She carried herself with a quiet confidence that came from having spent time in this college, navigating its halls and routines.
It was a familiarity that Karthik lacked, but he admired the way she seemed at ease.

Their first encounter took place in the pediatric ward. It was nothing more than a quick, casual exchange—a simple "Hello" and a nod as they crossed paths in the hallway.
Karthik had just finished his rounds and was on his way out, while Sravani was heading in to check on her patients.
The brief moment wasn't noteworthy, but there was something about it that lingered in Karthik's mind, even if he couldn't pinpoint exactly why.
It wasn't a deep connection—just an ordinary interaction.

The next time they met, it was early in the morning after Karthik had finished a long night shift.
He spotted Sravani having just woken up after her own night duty.
She was yawning and rubbing her eyes when Karthik, half-amused, decided to make a lighthearted comment.

"Had enough sleep for you?" he asked with a teasing smile.

Sravani blinked and gave him a tired smile in return. "Barely," she replied with a chuckle. "But I'll manage."

From then on, whenever their paths crossed in the hospital, there was always a polite exchange—nothing more than a smile and a quick nod of acknowledgment.
They didn't linger in conversation, and there was no deeper connection between them.
Their eyes would occasionally meet, but it was the kind of look that didn't carry much weight—just a fleeting recognition.

And so, they continued their interactions in this casual manner, with no expectation of anything more.
