Alice's eyes opened and she looked at the time, Shit its midnight she quickly snuck out and ran to the elevator. She quickly realised that she was only in a long sleeved crop top and shorts. She hugged her arms as she started to feel the lingering chill on her skin, the elevator doors opened to reveal the tall blond boy standing there with his back to her. ''Your late'' he stated as he turned around, ''I fell asleep'' she shrugged walking towards him and resting her arms on the railing.

''I didn't think you were going to come'' he admitted looking down at the ground, ''Oh'' she replied not knowing what to say. ''I don't know what's happening to me'' he mumbled, ''before i was just focused on winning the games but now all i can think about is you'' she looked up in shock. Out of all the things she expected him to say that definitely wasn't on her list, ''What?'' she blurted out surprised. ''I know we just met but- i don't know what love feels like but i think this is it'' he smiled softly at her. 

She got closer to him and leaned her head on his shoulder, ''I think i love you too'' she voiced and she felt arms wrap around her waist pulling her closer. ''But what the fuck are we going to do?'' she frowned, ''I'll protect you'' he declared. ''But only one of us can come out in the end'' she persisted and Cato felt a frown reach his lips. ''Then it'll be you'' he stated, ''I don't think i'll be able to live without you'' she blurted.

Cato felt a smile take over his frown ''You know i never thought i'd fall in love but something changed when i saw you, in my district love is seen as weak but now i don't care i'll protect you in that arena. Whatever it takes'' he smiled. ''Don't you have family too'' she argued, ''I have a 7 year old sister but my parents they won't miss me. My dad is a retired peacekeeper so he loves these games religiously as you can imagine and that's why i volunteered'' he murmured into her skin. ''Even if i win the games... i'll probably be dead in a few weeks anyway so you should win'' she admitted tears welling in her eyes.

''What do you mean Alice?'' he asked concerned, ''I- i'm really fucked in the head'' she mumbled looking down looking at the floor. She pulled away from the warmth Cato's arms and looked down at the Capitol people's celebrations on the streets, ''My dad died when i was 13 years old and ever since then i-'' she cut herself off as tears flowed down her cheeks. ''Ever since then i've never seen the point in life'' she admitted and she felt Cato arms wrap around her chest from behind. ''Its okay'' he reassured her, she could feel his hot breath against her neck. ''We both have pretty fucked up lives'' he joked and she cracked a smile.

''Its just- you should win'' she breathed turning around to look into his eyes, ''I don't see the point of winning if your dead'' he frowned bringing his face closer to hers. She looked at his lips and he brought his lips closer until he closed the gap, that's when it hit her. Im kissing Cato Hadley  she smiled as they pulled away from each other, ''We should probably get some sleep, we've got the first day of training tomorrow'' she said. ''Yeah'' he replied and they both walked towards the elevator.

''Come on Alice get up'' Effie smiled waking Alice up, ''You've got training today'' Alice groaned into her pillow. She pulled herself up and was met with Effie holding out a jumpsuit, after she put it on she walked out to the dining room where Peeta, Haymitch and Effie were sat at the table already. ''Hey Alice'' Peeta greeted her, ''Hey'' she replied sitting down and pouring herself some orange juice and taking a sip. ''Okay so i think it would be best to not show the other districts what your good so they don't figure out your weaknesses'' Haymitch advised, ''So what are we supposed to do then?'' she asked her mentor. ''Try to learn something new, you think you can do that sweetheart'' Haymitch asked, she nodded.
