“KHABARDAR HUMARE BIWI AUR BACCHE KE BAARE MEIN EK SHABD BHI KAHA TOH, Humse bura koi nahin hoga!”
Varun entered inside the room with his confident steps, his face angry, eyes blazing with such an intense fire.
“Isey humare kamre mein kisne bulaya, Malini?” He asked me in anger and for a second, it scares me too.
“Malini, hum kuch puch rahein hai?”
I focussed back on the situation.
“H-humne nahi... Khud hi aa gayi!”
He turned to her, his body and muscles stiffening,
“Jinn paon se chal kar andar aai ho, unhi paon se dobara wapas bahar nikal jao!”
“V-varun, humari baat toh suno, h—”
He cut her off,
“BAHAR NIKLO! Humare kamre se, humari zindagi se!”
I flinched at the loudness and sharpness of his tone.
Nandani's eyes gazed at me, her hands turning into solid fists.
“Arey, besharam ho kya? Ek baar mein sunai nahin deta tumhe? Humne kaha na bahar niklo humare kamre se!”
He shouted again.
Nandani's chest heaved with anger.
She looked at me, intensely, then muttered angrily,
“Yeh theek nahin ho raha hain, Mali—”
He cut her off, “Bahar kaa rashta udhar hai, Nandani!”
I let out a soft laugh because I wasn't able to control it anymore.
Nandani slowly turned around.
Just then Varun said, “Aur dobara humare kaano mein humari biwi aur humare bacche ke khilaaf ek shabd bhi gaya, toh tumhare poore khandan ko barbad kar ke rakh denge hum.”
Nandani flared up with anger and stomped towards us,
“Bohot zyada bol rahe ho, Varun! Humne abhi tak tumhari badshaluki ka kaccha chittha nahin khola sab ke samne isliye tum it—”
This time I interrupted her, cutting her off,
“Jao ! Hum nahin rok rahein tumhe. Naa Varun! Ja kar bata do sabko! Keh do tumhe jo bhi kahaniya banani hai. Hume farq nahin padta, Nandani.”
Varun gently leaned towards me, held my hand and intertwined our fingers together, giving my hand a gentle squeeze.
“Agar hum batane par aa gaye, Malini, hum ek ek sach keh denge. Sab kuch,” she pointed towards my belly.
Maybe, Varun had heard it all, that's why he stepped forward, shielding me completely from his body, and said to me,
“Malini?”
“Ji,” I replied.
“Maa se kahiyega Aaj hi aapki aur humare bacche ki Nazar utaar de. Hume abhaas ho raha hai, kisi kaale saaye ka.”
I bit my lower lip to control my laugh, “Ji.”
He looked at her, and then pointed towards the door.
She stomped her feet, and said one final time,
“Hum sab kuch bata denge, sab ko. Bohot bura kiya tum dono ne humse aise baat kar k—”
