The house was seemingly quiet, but that didn't exactly mean anything of course considering there was a demon in the house with them.
"Where do you think it went?" Brianna asked in a very hushed tone.
"Well, it has to be here somewhere!" Martin exclaims, clutching the rifle they found in the basement. They all collectively shushed him, all being Brianna, Juliana, Jay, and Mason, and then they all fell silent, listening for anything that could be moving. Suddenly there was an almost silent padding of footsteps from the floor above.
"I'm starting to think we should have gone with the others" Juliana whispered
"Please," Mason says "They have probably already been eaten alive by wolves or something"
"I think we are probably the ones in more danger," Jay points out "They have Charles and Sage, hate to break it to you but sometimes the brains win out over the brawn"
"Doubtful in this situation," Mason says smugly "People with brains would have remembered a flashlight and a portable charger"
"How about we all just pray we get out of this alive!" Brianna says annoyed "Placing bets on who might survive never helped anybody"
They pause once again to listen, the overhead footsteps seem to be becoming more rushed and headed towards the staircase
"Any chance this place has back stairs, Jay?" Juliana asks hesitantly.
"Close to none, but there is a back door" Jay points out.
"We are not following them," Martin says "We are going to do better here, we'll shoot it and be done"
"What if it is immune to guns," Juliana asks "Seems like if it's some kind of demon it would be immune to guns"
"It's not going to be immune to guns!" Mason exclaims "Like nothing is immune to guns!"
"Well, you better hope it's not immune to guns because we are about to find out," Jay says with gritted teeth.
The monster makes its appearance down the stairs. Its pasty grey skin and spindle limbs make it look even more horrifying in the dark. It turns and notices them and makes a screech, like nails on a chalkboard but worse. it has no eyes and its mouth seems to be full of some kind of goo. Martin aimed the gun and pulled the trigger, but the bullet seemed to vanish before even reaching the monster. The creature slowly started to walk towards them.
