Grace
The past few days in Alexandria had been everything but quiet. Everyone took Denise's death pretty hard. A lot of people were angry towards the saviors, and the rest of the people were scared of them. I was both. They killed Denise in cold blood, they stole from Hilltop and kill their people, so what would be stopping them from killing us?
Maggie felt the same way, just more extremely. She wanted everyone to band together to strengthen Alexandria as much as we could as fast as we could. I knew that she saw something out there, or that the saviors had done something to them. She just wouldn't tell me about it. But that was fine, because I had my own secrets to hide as well.
She was assigning us all shifts and things to do, but she was one of the hardest workers. I was worried about her working so hard, it couldn't be good for the baby.
Beth was staying and studying the books in the infirmary. We set up an extra crib for Judith in there so Beth could watch over Judith while she learned. Maggie wanted Carl and I to help out, which we were happy to do. Carl and I were holding our assignment sheet of the day when we heard a commotion.
We looked down the street to see Tobin and Rick shouting back and forth about something. I watched as Daryl sprinted towards the gate and got onto his motorbike.
"Daryl! Wait!" I released my arm from Carl's grasp and sprinted over to Daryl.
"Daryl, what are you doing? You can't leave. Don't leave, please. We need you here. I need you here!" I pleaded.
He turned his head and looked at me. He looked back at the handles and he drove off. I stood there feeling helpless. I didn't want to lose anyone else.
"Where'd he go? Why'd he leave? Did you hear anything from your dad?" I ran back over to Carl.
"They said that Carol just up and left. I don't think that's what this is about though." Carl told me.
"Oh god, it's probably about Denise. He wants revenge on those saviors." I sighed.
"Yeah, they're trying to figure out what to do about Carol. Now they've got Daryl to worry about too." Carl looked a little more worried than he did before.
"Shit. Let's just go do the work, we can start with the tomatoes. I can't think about this right now." I turned away from the gate and started walking towards the middle of our town.
Glenn and Michonne walked quickly past us. They walked up to the gates and hopped in a truck after talking to Rick. I stood by, looking confused. Maggie walked up behind me and placed her hand on my shoulder.
"Where's he going?" I turned and looked at her.
"They're going to find Daryl. Today's a mess already. We'll need to double up on some shifts now that four people have left." Maggie sighed.
"Make that five." I said as I watched Rosita hop into the truck with Glenn and Michonne.
"You should go get started with Carl. You don't need to be worrying about this." Maggie took her hand off of my shoulder.
I walked over to the tomato garden and found Carl already planting some seeds.
"What else happened? I heard another car leaving." Carl looked up at me from the ground.
"Glenn, Michonne, and Rosita left to go find Daryl. I also saw Morgan and your dad go into the house. I think they're talking. Maybe Morgan knows something." I knelt down beside him and started to cover the seeds with soil.
"This day is already really shitty and it practically just started. I mean, the sun barely just rose." Carl sighed as he continued to work.
"Yeah, well it can't get much worse than this, can it." I rolled my eyes.
