The night air was thick with tension as we stood in the shadowed cover of trees lining the estate's perimeter. The grand mansion loomed before us: Kykuit. A perfect fortress, set high and sprawling, it was one of the most heavily guarded places around. But tonight, it was about to be cracked open.
Marco crouched beside me, his gaze fixed on the structure. "Enzo, I've got eyes inside. Two guards at each entry point, plus Emilio's own men moving in every ten minutes along the west wing."
Dante adjusted his grip on his pistol, eyes sharp with a mixture of nerves and anticipation. "This isn't going to be clean, Enzo. I hope you're ready for that," he muttered, the words barely more than a breath.
I gave him a cold, unflinching look. "I'm not looking for clean, Dante. I'm looking for effective. My fiancée and her aunt are in there, and I'm not leaving until they're safe. Emilio can crawl or beg, but he's not dying tonight."
Dante nodded, a dark understanding crossing his face. "Alright. I've done my part-cutting off some of their power, disrupting the guard rotations. But make no mistake, this is risky, and Emilio's men will be armed to the teeth."
I barely heard him, my mind was locked on a singular objective. "Let's get this done." I looked at Marco. "What's the status on the security systems?"
"Blacked out in certain sectors, just enough to give us a window. You've got about ten minutes of darkness before they realize something's up."
"Perfect. I'll take the east wing," I replied, motioning for the team to fall into place. "Dante, secure the entrance. Make sure no one gets in-or out. Marco, lead the strike on the inner perimeter and cover our flank. We're moving in silent and quick."
Dante raised an eyebrow. "Silent, really? This doesn't exactly scream subtle."
I smirked, fingers flexing on my weapon. "We'll make noise when it counts."
As we moved closer to the mansion, I could feel the simmering anger, like coals stirring back to flame. Every second that passed felt like a direct insult. Emilio's time was coming, but tonight wasn't about revenge. Tonight was about Elena and her aunt.
As we reached the east wing, Marco signaled for us to hold. He leaned in. "Enzo, just remember-Emilio wants you to charge in. He's banking on that rage of yours."
"He's not going to get what he wants," I replied coldly. "Not yet."
We waited until two of Emilio's guards passed by, their footsteps echoing in the silence. I struck, swift and silent, rendering both men unconscious before they could raise the alarm. We dragged them aside, and I gestured for the team to advance.
Just as we made it inside, an unexpected clanging sound erupted from the center of the estate. Dante looked at me, concern in his eyes. "That's the south hall. Looks like Emilio might already know we're here."
