Cole had been (somewhat) peacefully training at the monastery for a few weeks now, occasionally speaking to Jay and Zane, although sometimes Jay had far too much energy to deal with at any time of the day, and Zane had far too little. It took more effort to explain sarcasm to him, and although their brotherhood was strong, sometimes it was just easier to just dodge the conversation entirely.

Sensei Wu had recently given them a mission to attack a new visitor at the monastery after he had settled in for a few days, and to avoid training on the outside course in order to not get spotted. It was essential that their presence remained hidden so that the new visitor at the monastery could fully focus on training to become a ninja and possibly help them in the future.

KAI'S POV

"It's impossible! I can't make it around here if you finish that stupid tea in ten seconds." Letting out a quiet grumble, I headed back through the polished double doors towards my room just before Sensei cut me off.

"Kai, maintain your patience. All lessons are lessons learned, although sometimes, we must learn them the hard way." I seriously don't get him. Sure, I could work harder, but if I come back to my room with a rock-hard bed that I can't comfortably sleep in, and bruises scattering my arms, how am I supposed to put all my effort into training? The course didn't even seem accurate to a real-life scenario for the so-called ninja training I'm currently completing.

With the press of a button, stone pillars and obstacles rose from the ground, while wooden figurines fell perfectly in the way, ready to be attacked; spiked wooden planks spun around, creating miniscule gaps that even a child could barely fit through. Sensei Wu hasn't given me an actual aim to work towards, which by the way, how is that fair? If I'm training to save my sister, and I don't know the moves I'm even working on, how am I supposed to use them? Nya has been there my whole life, so now that I'm without her, I've begun to realise how co-dependent we can both be on each other. Life seems to never give me a fair shot, but what's the fun if we get everything handed to us on a silver platter? I was the one forging silver for others, yet never receiving it.

"Damn it. I forgot to wash out my hair gel and brush my teeth." Heaving myself out of bed, I groggily walked towards the bathroom and stared at myself in the mirror. When did I get such deep eye bags? I knew that the sudden change in my life was taking a toll, but not this bad.

COLE'S POV

I think our target is actually insane.

He won't stop talking to himself, or checking himself out in the mirror. How is Wu ever expecting him to train efficiently and complete the course? It took the rest of us two months each to even get close to the last trap, and another month to make it fully: Wu decided to always pour his tea quicker and quicker until we finally noticed the slight grin underneath his beard, sometimes he would even let out a slight chuckle.

Nodding to Jay and Zane, I pulled my deep black hood over my face before jumping from pillar to pillar, the dark oak splintering slightly underneath my feet. Faintly, seagulls fought on the roof as their claws tapped in a rhythmic tune against the cold metal, tuning out our new visitor's hum as he ran his fingers through his hair. I continued to hop, dodge, and hide behind pillars as we blended in with the shadows instinctively, acting on autopilot, occasionally having to pause for longer as a pair of mahogany eyes darted around, looking up and barely missing our silhouettes.
