Lucifer was not important.
Well, yes, he was an angel—a Seraphim, no less—but he didn't feel that way. Nor was he treated that way.
When someone told him to be quiet, he went quiet. When someone told him to be still, he went still. So when Sera told him to go to the Garden of Eden to keep the first man company, he obeyed... with some question.
"Only for a small while," she said, looking down at him. Sera was incredibly tall, her shadow stretching over him like a canopy. "Time passes differently on Earth. It's faster. Stay there during the day and return when the sun sets."
Lucifer shifted, fiddling with the edge of his sleeve. "Why me all of a sudden, Sera? I never thought you'd actually send me down there." His voice was low, almost as if he was talking to himself.
Sera's gaze softened, though it felt like pity more than warmth. "I trust you to do this, Lucifer."
He stiffened. They both knew she didn't trust him. She never had. But he nodded and accepted the command, his expression blank. As always.

*Thud*
Lucifer plopped onto the ground, rather un-gracefully, the hem of his white robe getting plastered with mud.
"Oh good. Just what I needed." He muttered, indignantly. The scenery around him was very...green, to say the least. He was surrounded by trees and flowers, and he stood next to a riverbank.
The wind rustled his blonde hair ever so slightly. He straightened his hat and trudged off, leaves and twigs crunching under his feet.
Did he know where he was going? Eh, probably not. But did he keep walking confidently? Yes. Yes he did. And of course it was only a matter of time until the thick atmosphere of trees gave way and he was walking into a more open area with less flowers and more grass.
He hummed to himself. "Sera, why didn't you just send me straight to the guy?" He, said quietly, crossing his arms and scanning the grassy area.
A tree stood, not far from him. It cast a shadow big enough to provide coolness from the sun. Under it, he guessed, was Adam, fiddling with something he couldn't make out. A leaf, most likely. Lucifer decided to spare himself the walk and teleport to him.
Adam was different from what he expected. Not that Lucifer had expected much in the first place, but still. He was dull in comparison. Lucifer noted the brownness of his eyes, the tan of his skin, even the way his eyes crinkled when he looked up at him .
"Who the fuck are you?"
Yup.
Definitely different.
Lucifer grinned, drawing in a breath, "I'm Lucifer, its nice to meet you Adam. Charmed I'm sure. I'm here to keep your company in the absence of your..." He trailed off. Sera mentioned that humans were going to be fragile. Was mentioning Adams runaway wife Lilith a good idea? Lucifer had the mental image of Adam breaking like porcelain at the mention of her.
He decided against it.
Best not to poke the bear, he thought.
Adam scoffed, and narrowed his eyes. "Why the fuck would I want your company?" The man stood up, glaring at him. Lucifer had always been short. Another thing to add to the growing list of things he didn't like about himself. But Adam? He towered over him, making Lucifer feel tiny in comparison. His gaze flicked up to Adam's face, and then lowered to his abs.
He swallowed.
"Because," Lucifer said, taking a step back from Adam, feeling a strange unease he didn't often experience. "It's better than being alone?" The words came out more like a question than an offer, weak and half-hearted, but it was the best he could do.
