Almost a month has passed since the Cullen family left Forks and arrived in New York. Edward was somewhere alone in Brazil or something moping about leaving Bella, even though it was all his idea. Karlee has been thinking that he is overreacting big time. Bella isn't his mate, if she was he wouldn't have been able to leave her, simple as that. Esme and Carlisle are both worried about him, and as much as Karlee loves her uncle, she thinks he brought all this on himself.
Today is October 5, in other words, Karlee's 17th birthday. Alice normally goes all out for her birthdays, but this year it's like she doesn't remember or has a lot of other things on her mind.
Karlee was outside sitting on a swing in the backyard when Jasper came up to her.
"Hi, Jazzy." Karlee greets with a smile
"Hey, sunshine. What are you doing out here all alone?" Jasper asks
"Well, grandpa is at work, grandma is at the store, Aunt Alice is holed up in your room, and mom and dad went hunting. Besides, I'm not alone anymore. You're here."
Jasper smiles. "And I have something for you." He says before handing her a small box. "Happy birthday."
"Thanks, Jazzy." She says before opening the box, revealing a charm bracelet. "I love it."
"I'm glad. Here. I'll help you put it on." Jasper says before fastening the bracelet around her wrist. "Perfect fit."
"Thanks, Jasper. It's perfect."
"Karlee! Jasper! Come inside for cake and presents!" Emmett shouts from the door of the house.
"Coming!" Karlee says with a smile.
"Shall we, sunshine." Jasper jokingly says as he holds his arm out.
"We shall. Onward, my good sir." She says jokingly before giggling as the two of them make their way back to the house.

Karlee was sketching a picture of her parents when Carlisle came up behind her with a large book in his hands.
"That looks beautiful, Karlee." Carlisle says
"Thanks, grandpa." Karlee says with a small smile before looking at her drawing with longing.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing..." Karlee says and Carlisle gives her a look saying he doesn't believe her. "Well nothing, per say. I just...I was just wondering if I would ever find a love like mom and dad have for each other. Or you and grandma."
"I'm sure you will."
"Maybe. But I know so little about my species. I mean with my powers I was just learning as I went. I'm still discovering more and I have no idea what I'm doing."
"More powers?" Carlisle asks and Karlee nods. "What are they?"
Karlee holds up her hand and creates a ball of light. She makes it so bright that Carlilse has to look away before she dims it again, making it disappear. She then makes an apple from the bowl on the kitchen table float into the air and come over to her. She grabs it out of the air and bites into it as she looks at a shocked Carlisle.
"Photokinesis and telekinesis. I discovered the telekinesis when a branch almost fell on me a couple weeks ago and the photokinesis was when dad startled me yesterday. I accidentally blasted him back with a ball of light." Karlee says
"Wow." Carlisle says shocked before snapping out of it. "I may be able to help you find out more about your species."
"What do you mean?"
