It had been almost two full days since Rafe Cameron had so much as sent a random text to Gianna. Roughly thirty six hours, twenty four minutes and... Gianna checked her Apple Watch, thirty two seconds.

Not that she was keeping count, or anything.

Coming home from the bonfire last night, she quickly passed her mother's room, just to catch her up on the things that happened while she was, you know, high on her coke ride.

And as she walked back into her room, she laid on her bed, pondering on the whereabouts of Rafe Cameron. Maybe he was busy with his father's company he left behind, or busy with the gold thing he had told her about. She still didn't know if the last part was true or not.

But, nonetheless, she wanted to see him. No matter how much she tried to convince herself otherwise, the want was still there. The need. Along with the worry. Rafe was a drug addict, just like her mother, which instinctively made Gianna feel like she had to take care of those around her.

So, as she stared up at the ceiling, she made it her mission to find some way to see Rafe Cameron.

Her feet collided strongly with the stone driveway, a mixture of false hope, false confidence and false courage brewing in the back of her mind.

Gianna had contemplated turning back multiple times, embarrassed about her half-assed excuse she'd give Rafe on the reason behind her sudden appearance at his house, without his summoning.

She walked up to the grand outdoor entrance, rubbing her fingers as she eyed the doorbell, nibbling on her lower lip nervously. But, as she was about to ring it, she heard voice coming from the backyard. More specifically, Rafe's voice.

Her heart jolted with adrenaline, making her palms sweat. This was a shitty idea, she turned her back to leave—

No. She was going to see him.

Gianna huffed, taking in a breath, before finally forcing one leg in front of the other, moving herself to the backyard. And, as she reached the extravagant pool area, she spotted him. Tall and bold, with a presence that made any king fall to his knees.

She could feel the air leave her lungs.

"Hey," She choked out, fiddling with the hem of her cable knitted sweater.

Rafe turned at the sound of her voice, locking eyes with the honey blonde. He quickly muttered something under his breath before taking two strides to reach her.

"What're you doing here, Gianna?" He asked her, scratching the back of his neck.

She swallowed. "I lost my necklace here— I think." The words felt like toxic waste against her tongue, seeing as it was probably the worst excuse she could've come up with.

The Cameron boy's brows furrowed, slightly shaking his head. "I didn't find any necklace of yours in my sheets, so."

Gianna cleared her throat. "Huh, that's weird. A gold necklace with— with a few pearls and accents. My dad actually gave it—"

Her eyes switched glances to a man with burly brown hair who sat on the outdoor couches, along with a slight stubble. He must be someone Rafe was in business with, though Gianna had never seen him in the Outer Banks.
