The mansion breathes beneath her,
the town's eyes watch, warning her away—
but the energy pulls her deeper, refusing to let go.

In the garden's tangled silence,
her blood calls to a curse, bound by the soil—
ancestors under her feet.

Celia's bloodied hands digged fast through the soil as tears fell down her eyes, Kai holding her in a tight embrace as his shotgun lay on the ground. Blood seeped through his shirt as he let out a groan. What had happened to him? Them? This was supposed to be a good thing, her hopes were high when she first arrived.

She pulled the animal carcass out of the soil and pressed it against her chest; they had killed him to get back at her for having the house. Celia sat down on the ground as her inheritance burned in front of her—Kai guarded her, protecting her with his life as the white demons began to laugh strangely and loudly.

"We were all created equal in the name of the Lord!"

she screamed, her hoarse voice echoing as the Caucasian townspeople surrounded them. Some were on horseback, draped in white sheets and holding torches, reminiscent of the Ku Klux Klan.It felt as though she had gone back in time. She felt weak, as if she were chained up. The metallic taste of crimson blood filled her mouth, mixing with warm, salty tears as she slowly stood up and looked at them, seeing through their evil souls.

"This land was earned fair and square, & we won't give it up, just because y'all don't like how another nigga looks."

Kai spoke loudly and firmly as he reached into his pocket to reload his shotgun with bullets. The trees around them began to shake violently under the bright light of the moon. Kai wiped Celia's eyes with his thumb and she looked at him, feeling goosebumps rise on her skin as his face started to distort, resembling faces, she had never encountered before.

"We out here and we ain't leaving."
