"So let me get this straight..." Jonathan murmured, still in shock of what I had just told him. "You ran away two or three days ago because your adoptive parents were abusive, the you almost died of hypothermia, then you meet Lucas, and now you're going to high school here?"

I nodded.

Me, him, and Charlie were all sitting on the grass outside the school. The bell was bound to ring any minute now...

"You can't live on the streets with him Dan." Jonathan told me, grabbing my hands.

I compared our skin tones, surprised that we still had the exact same skin color.

Dan...
Hearing him call me by that nickname brings back lots of memories of me and him as kids, living with our first parents.
Don't ask what happened to them...
Because I won't tell you.

"Why not?" I replied to his question. "I thought you guys were friends or something."

"We are friends, but that doesn't mean I want you living on the streets with him."

"Well... I don't have any better options now do I?"

...

"She could stay with us for a while." Charlie said at last, causing both of us to look at him.

"I'm not sure mom would want that." Jonathan told Charlie.

So he likes his adoptive mom enough to call her 'mom'.
Good for him...
I'm not jealous at all.
Not at all.
I don't get jealous...
Ever.

"Just for a few nights." Charlie said, "It would be like a long sleepover."

"I'm fine with it." I said, letting Charlie know my opinion.

Jonathan signed, "I guess we could at least ask her... and dad."

The bell rang, letting us know it was time for our other classes.

"I'll drive you to our place after school, does that work?" Charlie asked, standing up from the grass.

Me and my brother stood up as well.

"Uh, I think Luke's picking me up." I admitted.

"He can probably stay over as well." Charlie said, "I can bring both of you guys to our apartment."

"Ok." I agreed, hoping the plan would work out.

(After school)

Jonathan and Charlie were walking me to Charlie's car when I saw Luke.

"Hey!" I yelled at Luke, calling him over to us.

He ran across the sidewalk to join me.

"Hey princess." Luke said, giving me a side hug.

He let me go and said hi to Charlie and Jonathan.

"Hey man. How's life?" Charlie asked Luke.

"Same old, same old." Luke replied signing. "What about you?"

"I'm fine. Schools boring and my parents are busy with work all of the time these days."

"Yeah." Jonathan agreed.

"That's nice, get the house to yourself eh?" Luke asked smiling.

"Yeah, most of the time they aren't home." Jonathan said.

Luke looked from me to Jonathan and then back to me.

"You can say it." I mumbled to him.

"You guys look very identical..." he admitted, putting his hands behind his head and letting out a breath.
