Chapter one : Avery Mitchell pov
I groaned, tossing my alarm clock across the room. "Why today?" I muttered, scrambling out of bed. I was already running late for school.
Rushing through my morning routine, I stumbled into the kitchen and poured myself a quick bowl of cereal. My mom, sipping coffee by the window, raised an eyebrow. "Late again, sweetie?"
I nodded with my mouth full of cereal. "Be careful, okay? And don't forget, you need to come home early; I'm having a night shift today." My mom, a nurse, worked tirelessly to provide for me since my father's passing.
I nodded, grabbing my backpack and rushing out the door. As I burst outside, a familiar roar caught my attention - Ethan Thompson, my best friend since primary school, pulling up on his sleek motorbike. His piercing blue eyes sparkled beneath his messy hair.
"God, my best friend is so hot," I thought, proud of how far he'd come. As a popular basketball player, all the girls in school adored him.
Ethan grinned, "I'm here to save you from tardiness." I walked up to him, saying, "I have legs, Ethan; I can walk."
"Hey, where's the fun in that?" he pouted, and I smiled.
"Besides, I hate this bike; next time, bring your car, big head," I teased.
Ethan touched his heart, feigning hurt, and I laughed. "Just hop on, boss lady; I won't take it easy this time."
"As long as I don't die, and my boyfriend doesn't kill you alive," I snarled playfully.
Ethan chuckled, "You know he can't touch me, princess. Now hold on to me; we're already late. Thanks to you."
"I'm welcome," I joked, and he drove off.
At the school entrance, Ethan expertly maneuvered the bike into a tight spot. "Thanks, Ethan," I said, climbing off.
"No problem, Ave," he replied, his voice low and smooth. "I got your back."
I felt a flutter in my chest and shrugged it off.
As we parted ways, girls couldn't help but stare at Ethan. We had different classes - English for me, math for him.
"See you at lunch, princess," Ethan said, grinning, and disappeared with his friends Micheal and Liam.
Jasper, my boyfriend of a year, tapped me on the shoulder. "Hey, what's up?"
"Hey, not much," I replied, smiling.
But ethan's gf just broke up with him last week; it's hilarious! I'll fill you in later. I have class now.
