The ensuing conversation was a blur for the exhausted Ye Wenxin, who leaned on Ling Jue's shoulder and somehow drifted off to sleep. By the time she awoke, she was already back at her residence.

Ling Jue, dressed in men's clothing, had revealed her true appearance—still captivatingly beautiful, a sight one could never tire of. Yet, Ye Wenxin wondered why Ling Jue, so wary of exposing her female identity, always chose to maintain her feminine demeanor in front of her.

"Awake?"

Noticing Ye Wenxin's prolonged gaze, Ling Jue, who had been reading, approached to check her pulse. Feeling uneasy, Ye Wenxin worried that her disguise might have been compromised, so she remained silent, waiting for Ling Jue to finish.

"Don't look at me with those worried eyes. You're just sleep-deprived, nothing serious," Ling Jue explained the results, calming Ye Wenxin's nerves. The recent sleep deprivation from Heitong's antics had inadvertently masked any inconsistencies in her disguise.

Relieved, Ye Wenxin silently thanked the hectic days spent with Heitong, leading to her sleep deprivation, which conveniently masked any unnatural behavior.

"I'm sorry for your hardships," Ling Jue said, feeling guilty. Had she paid more attention when Ye Wenxin mentioned Heitong, the crow wouldn't have dared to harass her at school.

"Sister Ling, it's really not your fault. You shouldn't shoulder everything," Ye Wenxin said helplessly. Ling Jue's personality and looks were admirable, but her strong sense of responsibility could be her downfall.

Ling Jue, however, was determined to take full responsibility, "No, it's partly my fault. I brought you up the mountain; I should have taken better care of you."

Ye Wenxin realized that arguing further with Ling Jue would be futile. She decided to change the subject, "Then, Sister Ling, how about some compensation?"

The familiar scenario didn't relax Ling Jue; instead, she grew wary.

"If it's about Fairy Feng Ya, I can't help," Ling Jue said, her tone slightly displeased, not wanting Ye Wenxin to be too close to the Elegant Fairy. This stemmed partly from female rivalry and partly from Ling Jue's insecurity, fearing Ye Wenxin would forget her once she met Feng Ya.

"No, no, I know you don't know much about Fairy Feng Ya, so I wasn't going to ask about her. Look, I came up the mountain because of you and suffered because of Xiao Hei. See, I've got dark circles," Ye Wenxin cleverly shifted the blame to Ling Jue.

Ling Jue was momentarily at a loss, unsure how to respond to Ye Wenxin's unconventional tactics.

But if Ye Wenxin blamed her, then so be it.

She only hoped Ye Wenxin wouldn't hate her.

Ling Jue pressed her lips together, feeling Ye Wenxin's hands on her shoulders, seemingly ready to push her over. Ling Jue thought of resisting but decided it might be part of the compensation, so she let Ye Wenxin pin her down.

"I finally toppled you again, Sister Ling," Ye Wenxin laughed, her youthful face showing hints of a beauty to come. Despite being a child, she exuded a comforting strength.

Ling Jue didn't resist, willing to give Ye Wenxin whatever she wanted. As the distance closed, Ling Jue's heart raced, but Ye Wenxin rolled away, saying, "So, I want you to sleep with me for the next few days as compensation."
