The tires crunched on the gravel path, the headlights slicing through the thick fog that had descended upon the winding mountain road. Darren, behind the wheel, glanced at Brooke, her face illuminated by the soft glow of the dashboard.

"An hour's drive to hear that crap," he muttered, a hint of frustration in his voice. "You know, it wasn't even a band. A guy with a guitar. An hour each way."

Brooke, her eyes fixed on the road ahead, chuckled. "He wasn't that bad."

"He sounded like James Blunt," Darren countered, his tone playful.

"What's wrong with that?" Brooke asked, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"We already have a James Blunt," Darren replied, a smile spreading across his face. "One's all we need."

Brooke laughed, the sound echoing through the car. "So why did you come?" she asked, her voice laced with amusement.

"Because I love you," Darren answered, his gaze returning to the road.

"Nicely done," Brooke replied, her smile widening.

The fog grew thicker, obscuring the edges of the road. Darren squinted, focusing on the faint outline of the path ahead.

"Watch out!" Brooke suddenly exclaimed, her voice sharp with alarm.

Darren's eyes widened as a dark figure materialized from the fog, stepping directly into their path. He slammed on the brakes, the car skidding to a halt just inches away from the figure.

A man, his face hidden in the shadows, stood frozen in the headlights. Darren and Brooke stared at him, their hearts pounding in their chests.

"Are you okay?" Darren asked, his voice trembling slightly.

The man remained motionless, his eyes fixed on them. Then, with a sudden, horrifying swiftness, he lunged forward, his teeth bared in a grotesque snarl.

Darren cried out as the man sank his teeth into his neck, the sharp pain shooting through his body. Brooke screamed, her hands flying to her mouth in horror.

"There's no signal!" she cried, frantically searching for her phone. "Darren! Darren?"

Darren slumped against the seat, his eyes wide with fear and confusion. The man, his thirst seemingly quenched, released his grip and stumbled back into the fog.

Brooke, tears streaming down her face, scrambled out of the car and ran towards the figure, her cries echoing through the silent night. The fog swallowed her whole, her screams fading into the distance.

Darren, his vision blurring, slumped further down in the seat, his hand clutching at his bleeding neck. As darkness enveloped him, he whispered a single word: "Vampire."
