The Town Hall

Kimmy stood on the wall near the back entrance. She couldn't believe mom was putting so much effort into being there. You could hear a gavel hammering the podium repeatedly. "Come, come now. Gather, gather all now, settle down. Uh please, please, no shoving, all at once now take a seat." A tall Canadian man's annoying little voice spoke. Hammering the gavel onto the wooden block. People stormed the town hall gathering in the center of the room. A nun sat next to a man in the far right corner. He wore a brown witch hunter's hat mysteriously tucked in the shadows. Every inkle in her body twitched. Kimmy's eyes wandered the room. Absorbing every bit of expression around the entire town hall. Two robed figures awkwardly stood in the corner on the other side of the room. Kimmy tried to make good, but their hoods covered any explanation of what could've been a revealing face. Something is weird, thought Kimmy. Is anybody else paying attention? "Are we going to ignore the fact that there are a bunch of weirdos sitting in the back of the room?" Kimmy Murmured under her breath sarcastically. She hated the idea of moving. And now standing in a creepy room full of crazy spooks. Kimmy eased her way through the aisle slowly making her way to the back. Mom took a seat with a big smile on her face. Those pretty rosy red cheeks lit from ear to ear. Mom looked really pretty in her red hat, Kimmy thought. Why is she so happy? Only if she knew? Only if she had a clue? There's something funny about Mr. Chaney. I just know it. We have to tell Mr.Chaney. Kimmy took a long look at Kim smiling with a twinkling glee in her eyes. I'll wait to tell her. Mom's been through enough. I don't want to be a disappointment. Kimmy stood at the back wall in all despair feeling a little frustrated. Cullen was so oblivious, Thought Kimmy. He hadn't the faintest clue of what was going on. Thinking everything was normal besides Freckles missing and all. " I really miss Freckles," Murmured Cullen. Whispering to Mom before the man at the podium spoke. Poor Cullen, this wouldn't have never happened if we hadn't moved here. Feeling so bad for Cullen. His eyes sparkled under the dim light leaning on Kim's shoulder as mom consoled him. She glanced at the robed figure opposite the room. She couldn't make out a face under his shaded brown hat calmly compressed to the seat. It was as if she'd seen a ghost and they were the only two in the room. It was as if he wanted her to follow him. The energy of attention overwhelmingly took Kimmy by surprise. She slowly walked towards his direction breathing heavily so ever fearful but brave not to be noticed with every concentrated step. Just as Kimmy had made it closer to the corner of the room, the bounty rose from the seat dashing quickly into the shadows mysteriously into a small door unauthorized. Kimmy's eyes grew wide with curiosity. She began towards the far left wondering where the man had gone and what he was up to. Compelled by the energy drawn by an unknown overwhelming dominance guiding her. Leading her through the navy blue utility door. Her fragile little hand trembled, turning the knob clockwise to open the door. A thick layer of smoke crept from under the door slowly pulling the heavy door made of metal open, making an old screeching noise. Aiming to be careful and quiet slipping through the half ajar door. The room was dark and perilous, long, damp and cold. She took a few steps forward pausing to observe the darkened area. Mist rose from Kimmy's breath gazing down the sewage smelling brick tunnel. Intensely nervous and scared taking a deep frosty breath before proceeding. But before she began any further, crack! The heavy door slammed behind her on its own as she scarcely jumped, but remained concentrated ahead. The tunnel was a long dark mystery. The tunnel looked old, mystic and historic. Brown chipped pieces of brick chisels slightly fell under the dim shimmering dark tunnel lights. It's as if the tunnel had a thriving pulse. It feels like my heart is about to jump out of my chest; thought Kimmy. Water droplets constantly peeved the discolored brick pavement. Large cobwebs spread throughout the corners of the ceiling and on the swinging lights just above. "What am I doing? Why am I here? Maybe I should go back?" Murmured Kimmy in a rasp quiet soft whispering tone. "Maybe I'm making a big mistake?" She felt an emotional overwhelming sensation as if to turn back but her legs wouldn't let her. I want to go back but I can't. It's as if my body's possessed. As if, as if, I have no control over my own body. As if being guided in that direction. "Oh, I don't feel so well," exclaimed Kimmy. My stomach hurts." Wailed Kimmy in a low moan. I don't think this is a bright idea. She kept walking, ignoring the knot in the middle of her stomach getting tighter like someone easily reaching inside ever so gently squeezing until her abdomen was throbbing. Tight enough to hardly breathe. A cold chill filtered the dim lit tunnel. Just then, she thought she heard a familiar voice. Deciding on what tunnel to take, making it to a split off direction. "Cullen?" Thinking a dark shadowy figure quickly disappeared into the left tunnel. She began to follow suddenly, forgetting all about the pain that once grew in her lower abdomen. "Cullen?" She murmured in a whispering tone. The tunnel was damp and smelled of mold. The dim lit tunnel curved in every direction, scarcely trying to keep up with the dark shadowy figure quickly disappearing around every part of the curving tunnel. "Cullen! Cullen!" "Freckles!" "Slow down! Where are you going? Hey!" Kimmy gasped in a low raspy voice. Cullen's distant voice echoed around the curving tunnel. "Freckles! Where you going boy? Come back!" Faint barking drew Kimmy towards the sound. I can hear Freckles, she thought. She crept down the creepy tunnel wondering what's waiting at the end of the tunnel. What's on the other side? Quiet enough to hear water droplets bouncing off the walls onto the brick pavement. A shivering chill broke her track of thought standing still in the middle of a nowhere tunnel.
