Victoria G: What inspired you to become a singer?

Aspen Roos: I honestly can't remember when I wasn't singing.

VG: What is your favorite thing about singing?

AR: I love that it can mean whatever you want it to mean. It can be spending fun and quality time with friends, or it can be an important solo you've worked on for years. Art exists in the way we let it. It has the meaning we give it and for me it's everything.

VG: Who are your musical inspirations?

AR: It really depends on the day and my mood. There are so many artists from so many different genres and eras I take inspiration from that it is impossible to name them all.

VG: What is your songwriting process?

AR: I don't have a specific process. When my thoughts and words are flowing, I try to write them down. If a tune comes to mind, I try to record even a bit of it, either humming or singing or whatever, just so I can remember it. Or, sometimes just messing around on my uke or guitar or with friends and something just sort of clicks in my head and then I become obsessed with putting something together.

VG: What messages are important for you to express through your music?

AR: I think empathy is one of the most powerful emotions, and I think it's strong within songwriting. The best compliments I've been given are from people who can relate to what I've written.

VG: Do you play any instruments?

AR: Yes, I play guitar, ukulele, bass, and a little piano/keyboard.

VG: How would you describe yourself in three words?

AR: Friendly, honest, and driven, but don't ask my sister or parents, they'd probably have a different response.

VG: Do you have any hidden talents?

AR: I can tumble and juggle, so maybe I should just quit everything else and go into the clown business.

VG: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

AR: Youngest EGOT winner or maybe standing at midfield performing for the Super Bowl halftime show (a girl can dream).

VG: What are your social media handles?

AR: Aspen_musicc for Insta YouTube is @aspenroos

VG: What advice do you have for an aspiring singer?

AR: Everyone has a unique voice. Just because someone might not like your music or your style, doesn't mean other people won't. So, if you're passionate about your singing, make it happen.

VG: What advice do you have for an aspiring songwriter?

AR: To write it down. It doesn't matter if you don't think it reaches your standards. It's still art and you might want it later. Oh, and you know how sometimes something comes to you in the middle of the night? I've learned to get up and write it down or leave myself a voice memo or something, so I can be sure to remember it the next day.

VG: What's next for you?

AR: I'm super excited to share that I am currently working on my very first EP "Sweet Tooth". I have so many thoughts and feelings I've written down and this is just the first batch of many that I am fortunate enough to get to share with a loving audience. I love my producer and am amped to be making more and more music.

VG: RAPID FIRE QUESTIONS What's your favorite genre of music?

AR: This is incredibly hard for me to answer because I genuinely do love it all. I listen to what I feel. So, it really does depend on the day and my mood. My great grandfather was a child-prodigy trumpet player, so I really do feel like music is in my blood.

VG: What is your favorite pastime?

AR: I definitely like being immersed in either music or nature. Bonus points if I can combine them. Also, spending quality time with family and close friends. So, the ideal would be being with family and friends, singing music in a beautiful outdoor venue.

VG: Who's your favorite superhero?

AR: Okay don't judge me here but I'm going to definitely have to go with Alfred. Batman gets all the credit, but let's be real.

VG: What's your favorite candy?

AR: I have a huge sweet tooth, so it's almost easier to ask if there is any I don't like.

VG: What's your favorite movie?

AR: I have favorites for different subjects for sure. I love coming of ages films, like Mid 90s and SLC Punk. I also love psychological horror. Then, I love silly ones, like Birdemic and Sharknado.

VG: What is your biggest fear?

AR: I fear regret. I don't want to be on my deathbed wishing I had done everything differently. I want to live a happy and full life to the best of my ability while I can.

VG: Do you have any pets?

AR: Yes! I have five rescues. One cuddly cat and four silly dogs.
