"Now, are you sure ya want to buy this old dump? Ain't worth it in my humble opinion miss. Too darn big and too much darn work for a young lass like yourself! Ya'll lucky that the municipality sometimes inspect and maintain the darn thing cause it would have grumbled already if I'm to be honest. Waste of our tax money if ya ask me! Ain't nobody lived there for a century!"
Exhausted from her chatter, I bothered a look at the clock behind her; it seems to have been about thirty minutes that the old receptionist went on her rant to dissuade me from buying the land. Guess that's another reason why no one bothered to buy it. Exasperated, I nodded and shrugged at her words, but my patience was beginning to dry up and my mood haven't been done foul since arriving here.
"Miss... If I can be perfectly candid, I don't care about this story of yours nor what you think of my decision to buy it. Shouldn't you be happy that this old dump as you were calling it to be off your hands? I mean, your tax money is finally going to go somewhere also! What about this old dinky desk of yours sticking out like a sore thumb in this beautiful courthouse? I'm wet, cold and angry and only want to sign the paperwork necessary so that I can finally go home so that I won't have to see your face again. Now, would you be so kind as to hand me the documents along with the directions to my new home so that I may be on my merry way?"
The old lady looked at me bewildered by the sheer audacity I displayed before slamming the documents unto her desk.
"Your loss lass!" She snorted as she cleaned her glasses.
The processus didn't take long and gave the old lady the necessary amount as she began to retrieve the signed forms.
"Thank you for your cooperation, Ma'am. Have a good day!"
"Yeah, yeah, you too."
Following the directions given to me by that secretary; though not willingly at first, I soon arrived in front of my new home. I was baffled at the immensity of the place but also in awe of the beauty and potential this place had. I soon begin to feel eager to start cleaning up the place and make it feel like home. Armed only with my meager bag, I entered through the manor and found the inside even more beautiful than the outside. The inside might feel cold to some but to me it felt warm as if I'm finally home now. Without hesitation, I rushed to the living room where a magnificent fireplace made of stones stood alongside some furniture buried under white sheets. I quickly went to get some wood to get a fire going and after a few attempts, a warm glow could be seen emerging from the wood. Its light enveloped the room, and I basked in it, happy that all these nightmarish three months were worth it. The sun had long been at rest as his sister now gently caressed the withdrawn curtains with her light. After a few moments of admiration towards the crackling fire, I hanged up my soaked clothes and belonging next to the fire and enveloped myself in the only dried blanket I owned before resting my eyes next to the fire.
