The Midtown Gereva has always been a crowded pub on off days. Perhaps due to all the frustrating minds who return from work pours their minds on beers and bottles. The clock has stuck past 3 am just about to dawn. Two guards came out of the pub pulling a man. They brought him out in the pavement and pushed him away. The man probably not fully conscious fell on the ground. His face was suffering from the weary hangover look. His clothes were more hectic even though the robes look that of a decent guy. They were covered by dirt. The man crawled towards the dustbin.
One of the guards asked the other ‘I just can’t figure out why but it feels like that guy is somewhat familiar’.
The other guy replied ‘Who gives a damn? Just know that he couldn’t afford all those shit he devoured. So we took his watch. End of business. Let’s go grab a drink’.
The man reached the dustbin. He put his hand inside the bin and found a half eaten burger. He put it in his mouth and started thinking ‘The world has been indeed that cruel. Today a fortune less man has nothing to take from the world. He can feel the ground losing beneath his feet. It was just another day in his monotonous life. He feels it completely inside himself and thinks how bad it can be. A fear should always be there in these situations. Love has become temporary once you have lost the track on the world. You start realizing the funny part of life. There is always an early full stop in life if you have not prepared yourself to the mark. All other things that give you joy and happiness becomes secondary. Indeed all these things matter only if you have lived up to your own expectations. Today his world is different and could have been something else if..’
The clock has been on 3:30 and his hands still in and out if the bin. He managed to get himself a stocky bag, full of rubbish. It will serve him as a pillow. He pulled it out and put it on the ground just near the bin. He made himself comfortable on the ground. The early morning passerby’s eyes went towards him from time to time. But the man does not care. His night has been rough so he went towards the darkness of sleep.
Sounds of sirens ran all over the place. The man slowly opened his eyes. He felt the dizziness over his head but his visions were blurry. Still he could make out that two police cars have pulled up on the road. And in the middle of the police cars a black BMW has pulled up. It was almost 7 in the morning and the sun has come out bright. His vision was becoming clear and he could see a man in a black suit running towards him with two cops. His heart skipped some beats.
The man in suit came near him holding a cell phone on which he spoke to someone ‘Charles!! We found him. We will be there in two hours I promise. See ya.’
The suit guy bent down and shouted towards the man ‘ What the fuck is wrong with you man?? I told you not to screw up before the big day!! What have you been up to Alex?? ’
Alex looked towards the suit guy for some seconds and then laughed as he replied ‘I told you this might be a one way trip. So I did all I wanted, even my dreams of starving and sleeping on pavements’.
The suit guy mocked ‘That’s not funny at all. Besides this will never be a one way trip. I know it for sure. Now let’s go, we don’t have much time.’
Alex asked ‘Okay okay, but how did you guys found me??
Suit guy replied ‘Well some passerby noticed your face from the daily and informed the police. Thanks to him the country was saved from embarrassment.’
Alex smirked as they got inside the car. The little LSD has worked on him bringing some really deep thoughts of a different life to his mind. He drank milk from a pack and put on his glasses as the BMW escorted by the police vehicles zoomed through the road. Alex got hold of the daily from the car’s dashboard as the convoy rushed on the highway towards Kennedy space station. He kept looking on the headlines on the front page “Space shuttle TYBER all set to start its journey to Mars today with eight astronauts lead by chief NASA scientist and astronaut Alex Bloomington.”
