Okay, so we're two days out from the camping trip, and guess who still hasn't packed? Yep. That's right. This guy. At this rate, I'm pretty sure I'm going to show up at the camp with a pair of socks, a toothbrush, and a vague sense of panic. But hey, I work best under pressure, right? I keep telling myself that, hoping it'll make me feel better. Spoiler: it doesn't.
Lo and Ben are basically done with everything—packing, organizing, mentally preparing for the camping trip like they're going on a safari. Leo's on the phone with his mom at least five times a day, double-checking everything, and I swear, he's got a first-aid kit that could probably treat a broken leg. Meanwhile, I'm here still Googling "What do I actually need for camping?" like it's my first time outside.
The funniest part today was when we had our final meeting about the trip during homeroom. Mr. Dreadmore went on this huge spiel about being "prepared for anything" and "embracing nature," and, to be honest, I zoned out halfway through because I was still thinking about my lack of a sleeping bag. Ben caught me staring into space and whispered, "Dude, you're doomed." Thanks for the encouragement, Ben.
Later in the day, the class was practically buzzing with excitement. Some people have already started packing their bags in class, which—sure, that's a great idea if you're not trying to look like a total mess in front of everyone. Lo's been telling me to just grab some random clothes and stuff it into a duffel bag, but I'm not sure "winging it" is the best approach here. At this point, I'm praying I don't end up with just one shoe or an empty backpack.
I've been trying to remind myself that this is supposed to be fun. Fun. The kind of fun where I'm going to be surrounded by nature and wildlife and... probably a few too many spiders. The goal is to make it through without embarrassing myself too much. So maybe tomorrow I'll pack. Maybe.
For now, I'm going to enjoy my last night of being indoors, air-conditioned, and away from whatever wildness awaits me out there. Wish me luck.
