Ezra Hale didn't believe in fate. He didn't believe in destiny or anything that felt like it came out of a romance novel. He believed in the things he could see and touch—like his skateboard, his favorite leather jacket, and his two best friends, Tyler and Max. They were his crew, his brothers, and together, they were untouchable. He didn't need anything else.
But when Mrs. Monroe, the teacher from hell, dropped a bombshell on the last day before spring break, Ezra's world shifted in a way he wasn't prepared for.
"You three," she pointed to him, Tyler, and Max, "will be partnered up with Ivy Bennett and her friends for the final history project."
Ezra's head snapped up at the mention of her name. Ivy Bennett. The girl with the perfect smile, the perfect grades, and the perfect life. She was everything Ezra hated about this school. Too polished. Too... perfect.
His eyes flickered toward Max, whose raised eyebrow was already on its way to a full-on smirk. Tyler, of course, had no filter.
"No way, man. You're telling me we're doing a project with her?" Tyler gestured to Ivy, who was sitting on the other side of the room, working diligently on whatever notes she had written. Her glasses perched delicately on the bridge of her nose, her fingers flying across her laptop.
"Looks like it," Ezra muttered, not happy at the thought of being tethered to Ivy's perfectionism.
Ivy's reputation preceded her—class president, valedictorian in the making, the kind of girl who smiled at the teachers and got praised by the principal. She never broke a rule, never made a mistake. She was everything Ezra couldn't stand.
"We're doomed," Max muttered under his breath.
