I woke up to the noise of people speaking downstairs.I woke up and made my way downstairs and I see some of the stuff is already here.“Oh hey Liefie.”Mom said.[Afrikaans –Liefie–Sweetheart]
“You can put them in there please.”Mom said to the men moving in the furniture. Its pretty busy today.
“Are you hungry I already went to buy the grocery.”
“What already?”
“Yeah.Oh please be careful with that.Liefie ek maak so bietjie vir jou ontbyt ek net.....That goes upstairs...wait there I'll be right back.”And she's gone.[Afrikaans –Liefie ek maak so bietjie vir jou ontbyt ek net–Honey I'll make breakfast for you in a bit.]
I wonder what time is it.10:30 already.Maybe I should text Jennie.I wonder what time it is back home.
“Hey Jennie just texting to tell you that I got here safely and I already miss you.”
“So what do you want for breakfast? Pancakes, Cereal or at English breakfast?”She said going to the kitchen.
“I'll just have cereal.”I said following behind her.
“Wow it's already set in here.”The kitchen looks awesome she's clearly done a great job with choosing the furniture.
“So how was your first night in New York?”
I shrug.“What didn't sleep well?”She hands me a bowl and a cereal box.
“No I just...Ek dink net nie ek kan gewoond raak daaraan om hier te woon nie.She hands me the milk.“Dankie.”[Afrikaans –Ek dink net nie ek kan gewoond raak daaraan om hier te woon nie–I just don't think I can get used to living here.] [Afrikaans –Dankie–Thanks]
“Emma you just got here.”She's right I just got here but I don't wanna be here my life I back in South Africa.
I sigh playing with my food.“Mom my whole life is back in South Africa and I've seen the lifestyle of Americans in movies and it's too much.” Maybe I might be exaggerating a little but the American life is totally not for me.
Dis 'n pragtige land met pragtige mense. sal dit gou besef.–Emma I know I made you leave everything behind but this is our new life now...here, together and I want to give you everything you want and believe me when I say you'll love America. Its a beautiful country with beautiful people you'll soon realise that.]
“So please give it a chance.Aseblief.”She makes a cute face.[Aseblief–Please]
“Oky.”
“Great.”She gives me a kiss on my cheek.“And you start school on Thursday.”School in America?
“When do you start going to work?”
“Tomorrow.”So soon?
“Wait so who will I be with tomorrow?”
“Come on you're a big girl you can handle being left alone.Maybe you can explore but only if you're be careful and turn on your location in case you get lost.”Yeah I might be bad with directions but think I'm too old to get lost.
I chuckle.“Okay mom.”
We chatted, the movers moved the furniture and the house is complete it looks beautiful it feels like... home.My room is also nice I just have to make a little touches here and there to make it complete maybe have strip lights all around.I put one of my suitcases on my new bed.I unzip it and start putting clothes in my closet. When I was halfway through I come across my dad's rugby jersey. He gave it to me when I was 6 it was like a dress back then.I remember when he used to teach me how to play rugby in the backyard such a good memory.
I fold it and put it away. After putting everything to where they should be.I sit down on my bean bag to read a book.I'm a bookworm I'm obsessed with reading. It's a great way to move time and also a way for me to travel in time.I like adventures and also reading about love but I've never been in one but I wonder how it's like though I've seen what's it like to be loved I've seen it with my mom and dad. They were a happy married couple used to kiss all the time which was gross but they both loved each other.
And for the rest of the day Emma spent her day in her new room reading books. But she couldn't stop thinking about her dear best friend back in South Africa. She also couldn't stop thinking about her new school, what the kids are like? How are the teachers? Yes Emma is an overthinker.
