(Please note, this story takes place in a survival au, La Squadra didn't all die, and nor did the gaurds. Things are alot different.)
___Sorbet watched as Gelato lay sleeping next to him. It was the most peaceful he'd looked in ages, while he was asleep.
Sorbet sighed softly. He missed the days where they didn't have to worry about being hunted by Passione. He regretted attempting to uncover the boss' identity. It nearly cost him and Gelato their lives.
I guess we're lucky we had a distraction, he thought, gave us a chance to escape.
This is what he spent most his restless nights thinking about. He'd never get that smile out of his mind. No true smile, just the slight curl of the mouth and nasty bared teeth. The haunting eyes, the ones that only portrayed delight at someones demise, the ones that make it hard for him to close his eyes at night. A scalpel catching the light above the counter.
He shuddered. He needed to get his mind off of it. Normally, Gelato is his distraction, he would focus on his lover to get it all off his mind. But now.. looking at him, even as he lay there peacefully, he could only see what had happened to him that night. Tied up and gagged, fucking terrified and hopeless. It hurt his heart to think of it.
He'd been a mess when they managed to escape- he brokedown almost as soon as they got clear of immediate danger. He was terrified he may have lost Sorbet that time, that he may have been alone if he had.
He knew Gelato couldn't handle being alone. He's always had seperation anxiety, almost since the two met, he would cling to Sorbet and follow him everywhere the younger man allowed. He realized now, he may have only fed the problem, letting him do that.
He was much stronger when we met. He found himself thinking. It seemed like as time went on he became weaker mentally. He couldn't ever fully fight against Sorbet's stand, Sweet Dreams, and he always lost the mental battle. He always tried to teach him. It never worked.
His stand was the master of puppets, as Risotto liked to call it.
He supposed it was pretty true. His prey did become his puppet. If he got his hands on someone, for even a second, they would be under his manipulation. There was a timer to that if he let go so he prefers to follow his prey, to ensure that Sweet Dreams stays attached to them. It was risky to follow, since he could be caught, but that's usually why Gelato would tag along.
He moved closer to his lover and laid his arm over his waist. He just wanted to be sure he would be okay. Out of everything that happened, the thing he remembered most was Gelato. He hated thinking about him being tied up like that, he hated how scared he had seemed. People say Sorbet is either heartless or a psychopath, and they aren't entirely wrong. But he isn't heartless..
He moved on the bed, careful not to wake Gela up as he buried his face into his chest and wrapped his arms around him. It was cold and he already needed the warmth, but he also wished he was awake, so he could respond to the action. Anything that shows he's alive. For now he had to settle with listening to his steady breathing and heartbeat.
Their team.. what happened since the two have been gone? Have they assumed they're dead? Are they bothering to look?
It's been months. By now, Melone could have tracked them down. He has their DNA, he can easily use Babyface to locate them. That means they haven't tried, since no ones shown up yet. Not even Illuso has tried? He hasn't tried to find his little brother? He didn't believe that. Illuso cares alot for Gelato, he wouldn't leave him if he thought there was a chance he survived.
So that settles it. They think they're dead. That's gotta be the case, or else their sources would have alerted them they were being looked for, or something.
"Caro mio..?" He heard suddenly and picked his head up a bit. Gelato was awake now, looking at him with concern. "Why are you up, my love?"
He snuggled against him again. "Don't worry. I'm just.. having a little problems sleeping.."
He felt Gelato's hand bury into his hair, running his fingers through it. "Overthinking again?"
"It's not overthinking." He said quietly.
"It's late, Sorbet, you should be sleeping," He spoke softly, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
He smiled. "I know. I will, I promise, my heart." He picked his head up and looked at his lover again, seeing a smile on his face aswell. He isn't mad, at least.
"What's troubling you that you can't sleep?"
How does he say it without worrying him too much? He can't think of one, so he just settles on a portion of truth. "I was just thinking about the team.. do you think they've bothered really looking for us?"
He thought for a moment, "Probably. I know Illuso wouldn't give up if the others did, so atleast he should be trying."
"..Wouldn't we have heard something by now, though?" He asked.
"Maybe, maybe not. I don't think they would want to make it too known they're searching, just in case."
Sorbet nodded slowly. "So there's still chance,"
"Mhm.."
"Okay," He gave a small smile, "I shouldn't have been thinking about that so late anyway."
"You can't help it," Gelato said softly, running his fingers through Sorbet's hair. "You're by nature a pessimist, you think worse case scenario everytime and then you overthink on it."
"You're just too optimistic for this line of work,"
He scoffed, "I'm hardly an optimist. I try to see the brighter side of things, since you're too busy looking at the pitch black side everytime."
Sorbet chuckled at that. "You really are something."
He had that cheeky grin that Sorbet loved to see. He was so pretty, it hurt. How could one lone soul be so gorgeous? He leaned in and kissed him. Once they had pulled away, Gelato spoke,
"I can tell that wasn't the only thing on your mind.. do you just not want to speak of it?"
He stared at him. Even with how well he can lie and mask his emotions, Gelato can still read him like a book. All the more reason to love the man.
"I just don't think now is the best time, mein Herzz," He said, snuggling against his chest yet again. "Tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay," He muttered.
"Mm, I'm getting sleepy.. I might as well try to sleep." He felt Gelato place another kiss on the top of his head and smiled again.
"You should. Goodnight, Amore mio."
He yawned. "Hm, goodnight, mein schatz." And with that he slowly drifted off to sleep.
And now it was Gelato's turn in the restless night.
