"Don't worry about it my child", mom said as she hugged me escorting me to my new boarding house, the first place that I ever lived in during my stay in school. I had no idea of whom I would meet, the kind of people I will leave with and the kind of people who would be my roommates. At that moment I felt like, life had betrayed me. Being in a new place with new people, I think it is my greatest fear because since childhood, I haven't been so fond of travelling and seeing new places. But here I was, all alone, in a new place with new people. I got inside the house, while feeling like screaming out loud to cry. I really didn't want to be here. Dad and Mom left me behind and travelled back home.
The house consisted of six rooms. Just right opposite the entrance was the kitchen, on the right side of the kitchen there was another room which belonged to the boys. On the left side of the entrance was the living room, it had the dining areas, the study area, the television and the brown sofas which matched the carpet. The sight was very catchy. Just opposite the living room, was the passage. On the right side of the passage there were two rooms for boys and on the eft side there was the bathroom for the boys and right next to it was the room for the girls that I was the room for the girls that I was going into. My new room was just opposite the other room for the boys.
So then I went inside my new room, after taking all my stuff in with the help of my roommate. It was a six shared and it didn't really bother me because at that moment some beds were empty. I was the third person in that room.
"hi", I shyly waved at my new roommates
"hi, you are welcome", one of them waved back. "my name is Gina. Please choose a bed of your choice". Gina was so kind to me, as was the other, Cindy. I chose the top banker because it reminded me of high school. There were three more bankers that were empty and I wished my friend Tina was there, at least I wouldn't be lonely. I got my blankets and spread my new bed.
"So what is your name?", Gina asked
"oh, my name is Liya, I responded while spreading the bed.
"you are in your first year?", she asked yes, I am a little bit nervous about university life and everything about it, but I am excited. I am the first one in my family to be in university, so that is why I am nervous", I said as I settled on my bed.
"oh wow, that is so great. I am sure you worked very hard to make sure you pass your high school exams"
"sure I did. It was a lot of work but I thrived through"
"I also bet your parents really believe and trust in you yeah"
"sure they do", I smiled as I responded.
"are you the first born?", she asked
"no, I am actually the third, I have two elder sisters, the first born is out of the country, she is married and the second born, she is a business woman and she is helping me with school payments"
"okay, that is so good. School has a lot of bad influences, I hope you don't get influenced. You are pretty and you look so quiet and innocent". She said. And for sure I looked very innocent because I was. I was just like a small cute puppy. I hoped to not get influenced and I was determined not to. I just wanted to focus on my dreams and nothing else.
Days were moving slow and I hadn't known anyone yet, because of that, I was uncomfortable to go in the kitchen to prepare food. I would usually buy packed food. Fortunately, after three days, Tina moved into my boarding house and I was glad. It was then when I started cooking.
It has now been one week since I moved into the boarding house which I hated with the whole lot, including my lungs and my kidneys.
The first day of my class, was a bit boring. As it started, I tried to put all my attention into the lesson not until someone who came in late got my attention. The moment he just walked in, he grabbed all of my attention. For the reasons unknown. Since there were no seats available behind, he just moved in to sit in front, but not in my row. He looked so quiet and very innocent, like someone pure. I liked him, I liked his appearance because that's how I was. He had a tall figure, but was slightly taller than me. His face was oval shaped with quite a pretty big flat forehead that adds more to his beauty. His eyes are pretty big like that of a cute pappy and they are white as milk such that when he stares, one would feel the heart beating from another position of the heart. He is light in complexion, his skin tone is clean and neat. He is such a clean man. Of all the thousands of people who were present, he caught my attention. It felt like love at first sight. I watched him take his seat calmly. He really got my attention.
On that day, we never really had the lecture, they were just orientating us, we were taken around the campus. The campus was very big, it had a lot of classes. The yard was very big, on the left side of it, it had bench desks where students would relax from. The school had 5 floors and was made of glass. I just didn't like it because the school never had lockers and did not provide accommodation. After the orientation and the tour around the campus, I tried to stick around so that I get to meet and know people. I tried to greet some people but my eyes were just searching for that guy. I couldn't see him anywhere around, I bet he had left immediately.
After a while, I forgot about him and headed back home.

The following day, I had another lecture. In the process as I was trying to concentrate, I just noticed someone who came in late, it was the same guy from the previous day. He went ahead and sat on the front bench. I watched or rather observed him carefully, I don't know for how long all I know is that he caught my attention just like the other day. The most interesting thing about him, was that, he seemed to be alone, and to my surprise, I liked it, it interested me.
I got home with Tina and we prepared food to eat. We were both not so familiar with the place, so we would just spend most of our time in our room, we were not really sticking around in the kitchen or the living room. On the second day, I just couldn't help thinking about the guy I saw back there at school. I don't know what was very special about him, but I really liked his personality.
One day on our way back with home Tina after classes, I noticed a figure that looked very familiar ahead of us. I really couldn't figure out who he was from behind but he looked very familiar. Then I realized that it was the guy who had gotten my attention back then in class.
"Tina, do you know that guy walking ahead of?", I asked Tina while I pointed towards the guy
Uhm, no, I don't know him, he doesn't look familiar"
"oh okay"
"why"
"nothing really, I was just asking, since we are heading in the same direction.", I responded. "could we move a little bit faster, I continued.
"you want to talk to him?", Tina asked
"yeah I think we are in the same class. I just want to ask him something"
"uuuuhhhmmm......is that it, or there is something else I should know", Tina teased me. I blushed and she laughed at me.
"oh, come on, you know this year I do not want anything to do with relationships. I just broke up with my boyfriend, so I need a bit of time.", I said while trying to make a very serious expression so that she should suspect anything.
"okay, let's hurry up so that we can catch up with your boyfriend." Tina said as she put her hand around my neck.
I angrily removed her hand. 'He is not my boyfriend, I said then we both laughed. We hurried up to catch up with the guy.
