Life at Stark Tower had finally returned to some semblance of normal after the whirlwind of news about MJ’s pregnancy. However, Tony’s overprotectiveness was beginning to stretch the patience of everyone—except Tony, of course, who was adamant about making sure everything was perfect for MJ and the baby.
The Avengers were back to their usual routine, but it was impossible to ignore the way Tony had transformed into an even more hyper-vigilant version of himself. Steve had noticed the change, and though he was supportive, he couldn’t help but chuckle at Tony’s need to hover over every detail of MJ’s life.
Peter, too, had begun to feel the weight of the situation. It wasn’t just that Tony was more present than ever—it was that Peter, as excited as he was about becoming a father, was struggling to keep up with everything going on around him. Between college life, his superhero duties, and Tony’s endless checks on MJ, he was feeling the pressure mounting.
---
It was a quiet afternoon, and most of the Avengers were in their usual spaces, either working on missions or relaxing. Peter and MJ were in the living room, enjoying the rare moment of peace while Tony was out in the garage, tinkering with one of his latest projects. Steve, as usual, was off to the side, keeping a watchful eye on everything.
Peter glanced over at MJ, who was curled up on the couch, eyes closed as she rested. He could tell she was still a little overwhelmed by the constant attention from his father. He’d tried to sneak a moment of quiet with her, but even now, he couldn’t stop himself from feeling the weight of the expectations Tony had placed on them.
“I swear, he’s turning into a mother hen,” Peter muttered under his breath, glancing over at Steve, who was sitting nearby, reading through some files.
Steve looked up and chuckled. “Yeah, I noticed. He’s not letting MJ out of his sight for more than five minutes. It’s almost like he’s more concerned about the baby than you are.”
Peter shot Steve a playful glare. “It’s not that. I just don’t want to deal with that level of overprotectiveness. He’s already offered to put a security guard on every door in this place.”
Steve laughed. “I think he’s just trying to be a good father. You know how he is—he doesn’t know how to back off once he gets his mind set on something.”
Peter sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I know. I just… I don’t know if I’m ready for all of this. It’s one thing to be a superhero, and another to be a parent.”
Steve’s expression softened. “You’ll be great. You and MJ both. But you’re going to have to be patient with Tony, too. He’s not going to change overnight.”
Peter nodded, a little unsure but trying to accept the fact that things were changing rapidly, whether he was ready or not.
---
Later that evening, as dinner was being prepared, Tony barged into the living room, looking frantic as usual. “MJ, you should sit down. I’m going to make you some tea. You’re not feeling dizzy, are you?”
MJ, who had been resting on the couch, gave him a tired smile. “I’m fine, Tony. I promise. I’m not feeling dizzy, I just—”
“Let me get you the tea,” Tony interrupted, heading straight for the kitchen before MJ could even finish her sentence.
Peter, having had enough of his father’s hovering, stood up and walked over to MJ. “How are you holding up?”
MJ smiled, her hand resting on her stomach. “I’m doing okay. It’s just... well, Tony is definitely not letting me get away with anything. I can’t even drink water without him having a panic attack.”
Peter grinned, shaking his head. “It’s not like I didn’t warn you. Welcome to the Stark family, where we never stop worrying.”
MJ laughed softly. “I’m starting to get that impression.”
Just then, Tony returned with a cup of tea, looking overly proud of himself. “Here you go, MJ. Herbal. It’ll help with your rest and—”
“I’m fine, Tony!” MJ said, her voice growing more amused than frustrated. “I’m not an invalid, you know.”
Tony raised his hands in surrender, but there was a smile on his face. “I’m just looking out for you, kiddo.”
Peter exchanged a look with Steve, who was still trying to hide a smile. They all knew Tony had a good heart, but his protectiveness was becoming a full-time job in itself.
“Alright, alright,” Peter said, shaking his head with a grin. “We get it. You’re going to be the best grandpa in the world.”
Tony paused, staring at Peter as if he hadn’t heard him correctly. “Wait, you think I’m being too protective?” Tony asked, raising an eyebrow.
Peter smiled, trying to mask the sarcasm in his voice. “No, not at all, Dad. I’m just saying... maybe ease up a little?”
Tony looked at MJ, then back at Peter. He was clearly trying to process the idea. “I’m just doing what I think is best,” Tony said finally, but there was a softness in his tone now. “For you both. I want to make sure everything is perfect for you two and the baby.”
MJ’s expression softened as she looked at Tony. “I know you do, Tony. And I appreciate it, I really do. But I also want to be able to do things on my own sometimes.”
Peter placed a gentle hand on MJ’s shoulder, nodding. “Yeah, she’s got this. And I’ve got her back.”
Tony sighed, finally seeming to come to terms with the situation. “Alright, alright. I guess I’ll back off. But just know I’m here if you need me.”
MJ smiled. “We know, Tony. We know.”
---
The rest of the evening passed with little fanfare. Tony finally retreated to his lab, Steve joined the others in the living room, and Peter and MJ found themselves in a rare moment of peace. As they sat together, Peter leaned back, his arm around MJ, feeling the weight of the moment.
“I’m starting to think the baby’s already getting the full Stark treatment,” Peter said, looking down at MJ’s growing belly.
MJ smiled and kissed his cheek. “It looks like it. But I think we’ll survive.”
Peter chuckled. “Yeah. We’ll definitely survive this.”
And as the night settled in, they both realized that while their lives had changed in ways they hadn’t expected, they were ready for whatever came next—together, as a family.
