Kurt lay in bed, listening to his fiancé's angelic voice drift out of the bathroom. He loved that the younger man still liked to sing in the shower, but he wasn't about to admit that. Suddenly, Blaine's phone started buzzing. The screen lit up and revealed 12 texts from "Eli". Kurt read through them and tears rushed to his face. Blaine chose that moment to walk into the room, curls free of gel but soaking wet and eyes lit up with excitement.
"Hey, Kurt! I was thinking that this weekend we might be able to-" he stopped when he saw the tears in Kurt's eyes.
"What's wrong?" He asked, sitting beside Kurt on the bed.
"Who's Eli?" Kurt said bluntly.
"Why were you going through my phone?" Blaine said, his voice turning flat.
"I wasn't going through it. It just kept buzzing and all of these texts from "Eli" came up. Who is he?" Kurt asked once more, voice shaking.
"He's just a friend." Blaine answered.
"Then why was he flirting with you?" Kurt demanded.
"I never flirted back. He just texted me and I didn't respo-"
"But you DID text him back! You said hey EVERY time he said it, then he sent you a flirty text EVERY time! You knew after the first few times that when you responded he would flirt with you. Why did you keep texting him back?" Kurt looked at Blaine, tears filling his eyes.
"I'm sorry." Blaine said quietly.
"Me too." Kurt responded, his voice shaking with anger and sadness. "I'm going to Rachel's. I'll see you tomorrow, Blaine.
"Kurt, wait! Let's talk about this!" Blaine tried calling after his fiancé, but the slamming of their apartment door told him that Kurt was gone.
Kurt pulled his phone out, hands shivering from the icy air swirling around him. He texted Rachel asking if it was okay for him to stay the night. She texted back almost immediately saying "Of course! Why?" To which Kurt responded, "I'll explain when I get there." He shut his phone off and ignored the fact that Teenage Dream was playing, which meant that Blaine was calling him. After what felt like an eternity, he reached the door of Rachel's small flat. Almost immediately after he knocked, the door swung open.
"Kurt! I'm so glad you're here! But why ARE you here?" She questioned.
"Uh, well, Blaine and I had an argument, and I just needed to get out of the house. Thanks for letting me stay tonight, Rachel."
"That's sad. You two will make up though. I'm sure of it! And of course! You are, after all, my best friend. Oh, and by the way, Brody and I are going out to dinner tonight. Just letting you know." She said. "Here, I'll go get some blankets and pillows to make up the couch. Sorry I don't have another bed." She apologised.
"It's perfectly fine, Rachel. Don't apologise. I'm just thankful I had somewhere else to go. I don't think I could have stayed in that house for one more minute."
After making his makeshift couch-bed, Kurt looked at his phone. 11 missed calls from Blaine, 28 texts. All of the texts were somewhere along the lines of, "Kurt, please come home. Let's talk about this." Kurt turned his phone off and set it on the coffee table. His head had started to hurt, and his stomach was starting to feel twisted up in knots. Rachel walked into the room wearing a tight black dress, too much makeup, and very flashy jewelry. Not to mention a pair of some of the tallest heels Kurt had every seen.
"How do I look?" She asked worriedly.
"You look fine." Kurt responded. He really just wanted sleep. His head was pounding and he thought he might throw up. Every time Rachel spoke it sounded as if she were screaming.
"Are you okay?" She asked as she placed a hand on his forehead. "Kurt, you're burning up. Do you feel okay?" She asked once again.
"I'm fine." He lied.
"Okay...." She said, not convinced. "If you need anything call me." Kurt just nodded in response, which was potable a bad idea considering another wave of nausea washed over him. He heard Rachel talking to someone on the phone as she left, but didn't bother listening, assuming it was Brody. He laid on the couch for a while longer, but eventually closed his eyes because all of the bright colours in Rachel's living room were making him dizzy. Just before he dozed off, he heard someone open the door. When Rachel had called Blaine telling him Kurt was sick, Blaine rushed out of the front door and straight to her flat. He walked in, and the first thing he noticed was Kurt practically passed out on the couch. He looked awful. His face was pale and sweaty, and he was shivering despite the blanket that was laid over his body. Blaine slowly walked over and placed his hand on the sleeping boy's forehead, just as Rachel had done. It was hot to the touch. Blaine looked down at Kurt's sleeping face, and saw that it wasn't peaceful as it usually was when he slept. His eyebrows were knitted together, as if he was worried about something. Blaine sat down on the couch and gently ran his fingers through Kurt's hair. The older boy's expression relaxed a bit as Blaine continued stroking his head. Blaine laid down next to Kurt on the couch, and gently pulled a still sleeping Kurt into his arms. Kurt buried his face into Blaine's collarbone, and Blaine pressed his nose into Kurt's hair.
Kurt was having a nightmare, and that would be putting it lightly. In the dream, he and Blaine were standing on a tall set of railroad tracks that overlooked a swirling river of raging water and sharp, jagged rocks which would surely spell doom if one I them were to fall.
"Blaine! Get away from the edge!" A very distraught Kurt was screaming at the top of his lungs.
"What's the point of living if you don't love me?" Blaine yelled back. "I love you, Kurt!" Blaine then proceeded to jump off of the side of the tracks, and Kurt sank to the ground, sobbing in despair.
"I should've told you how much I love you! I should've given you more hugs! I shouldn't have gotten mad at you! I'm so sorry, Blaine!" Kurt was sobbing and screaming, wishing that Blaine would wrap his strong, warm arms around him and tell him everything was okay. But Blaine was gone. Dead. And it was all Kurt's fault.Blaine was gently shaking Kurt awake. He was screaming and crying, and clutching onto Blaine's shirt. His whole body was shaking and Blaine was doing his best to comfort the boy. After many painful minutes, Kurt woke up. He threw his arms around Blaine and buried his head into Blaine's neck.
"I'm so sorry. I love you so much. I love you so, so, much. I love you." Kurt whimpered.
"Shhh, it's okay. It's okay. You're safe. I'm here. I'm here. I love you too. I'll never say goodbye to you." Blaine whispered back. Kurt continued sobbing and burying his face into Blaine's sweater. Blaine started humming "Teenage Dream", and Kurt gradually calmed down. By the end of the song, Kurt was fast asleep in Blaine's arms, and Blaine was fast asleep with his head pressed against Kurt's hair.
When Kurt woke up, the first thing he noticed was Blaine's warm body pressed against his own. He looked up and saw that Blaine was absentmindedly running his hands through Kurt's hair. As much as Kurt would have liked to go back to sleep, he knew they needed to talk.
"How're you feeling?" Blaine asked, his voice filled with concern. The truth was, Kurt felt the same, maybe even worse. But he knew if he and Blaine were going to have a heart to heart, he had to put his brave face on.
"I'm fine. Listen, we need to talk." Kurt said, pushing himself into a sitting position.
"About what?" Blaine asked innocently, also sitting up.
"About why you didn't tell me about those texts." Kurt responded, annoyed that Blaine was trying to play dumb.
"I'm sorry." Blaine said softly. "But you were busy with work and I-I was just lonely and he just started texting me and-" He was cut off by a sob. Kurt gently pulled him into a hug.
"Next time you're going through something like this, just tell me so I can help you." Blaine just nodded.
"I'm sorry." He said again
"I know." Kurt said back as he stroked Blaine's back. "I love you." He told the younger boy.
"I love you too."
