The attack on the palace had been swift and brutal, orchestrated by remnants of Sophia’s loyalists. They struck at midnight, their dark-clad figures blending into the shadows as they infiltrated the palace walls. Their goal was clear: to eliminate the DeWinter family and reclaim the kingdom for their cause.

Ryan had been the first to notice something was wrong. Years of survival instinct honed in the DeWinter household had taught him to sense danger, and the faint flicker of movement in the dark corridors sent him into action.

The ensuing battle was chaotic. Casey fought with her trademark precision, her blade a blur of silver as she defended her family. Ryan, though not a trained warrior, used his resourcefulness and unwavering determination to keep the attackers at bay. Their children—Evelyn, Aidan, and Liora—joined the fray, proving themselves as worthy heirs of the DeWinter legacy.

But the enemy was relentless, and the cost of victory would be steep.

A Father’s Sacrifice
In the heat of battle, Ryan noticed one of the attackers slipping past the chaos, heading toward the royal chambers where Casey had retreated to strategize. Without hesitation, he pursued the assassin.

The confrontation was brutal. The assassin, trained and merciless, had the upper hand in skill, but Ryan’s determination outmatched his foe’s technique. In the end, Ryan managed to disarm the assassin, but not before suffering a deep wound to his side.

Bleeding and exhausted, Ryan stumbled back to the main hall, where Casey and the children were finishing off the last of the attackers. When she saw him, her red eyes widened in alarm.

“Ryan!” she cried, rushing to his side.

“It’s over,” he said weakly, a faint smile on his lips. “They won’t hurt you… or the kids… anymore.”

Casey pressed her hands against his wound, her composure breaking for the first time in years. “You’re not allowed to leave me,” she said, her voice trembling. “Not after everything we’ve been through.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” he whispered, his hand brushing against her cheek. “I made a promise, remember? By your side, always.”

A Mother’s Fury
Fueled by desperation, Casey led the final charge against the attackers. Her fury was like an unstoppable storm, her blade cutting through the remaining mercenaries with precision and power. Even the most seasoned soldiers in the enemy’s ranks faltered under the weight of her wrath.

When the battle ended, the palace was quiet once more. The few surviving attackers were taken prisoner, and the DeWinter family stood together, victorious but shaken.

Ryan was quickly taken to the infirmary, where the palace’s best healers worked tirelessly to save him.
