"I saw you talk to her," the admission came as soon as the two of them were alone in the locker room. "I saw how you were talking to her.  I thought... I thought I was your only exception."
Direct. Honest. No games. Most people were put off by Shayna's bluntness, but Zoey loved it. In fact, Zoey would be hard-pressed to think of anything she didn't love about her partner, her girlfriend, the Ace of Spades.

"Babe," Zoey tried to put her hand on Shayna's shoulder, but was shrugged off, "You're so much more than an exception. You made me realize who I am, and I'm never going back."
"So, what, you don't want to be my girl anymore?"
"Shay," Zoey shook her head, "I love you. Nothing is going to change that."
Shayna searched her face and - finding nothing amiss in Zoey's expression - sighed before throwing up her hands.
"Well what, then? You want to make me jealous?"
Zoey reigned in the part of her that swooned at the slight annoyance and aggression that showed in Shayna's manner - the very signals that usually preceded being pinned against the nearest surface before Shayna growled deliciously dirty threats, making Zoey beg for her.

"I want you and her," Zoey explained, "I just wasn't sure how to bring it up... or if I even should."
Watching her anxious expression hide behind her brown hair and blonde bangs, Shayna realized how much this had been weighing on Zoey. She gently lifted Zoey's chin before holding her face, the corners of Shayna's mouth twitching in a smile when her girlfriend looked up with love in her eyes. Still, her stomach twisted with uncertainty at the thought of Zoey with someone else.
"Hey, you know you can tell me anything," Shayna whispered, softening as Zoey's fingers entwined with hers, "I just... I wasn't expecting that."

Zoey couldn't help but worry, looking into Shayna's eyes as she tried desperately to decipher the split-second expression Shayna had let slip before she had spoken. Both of them, however, looked over instinctively when the locker room door opened.
Standing in the doorway, clad in all black - a long leather jacket hanging over a small bustier and skin-tight leggings tucked into boots - the subject of their discussion seemed surprised to see both of them.
"Don't mind me," Sonya Deville tried to sound casual, averting her eyes when she saw how the two women were holding each other, "Just came in to get my things. I'll be out of your hair in a sec."

Zoey looked like she wanted to say something, but stopped herself when she noticed Sonya seemed intent on not looking at her again. Shayna couldn't ignore how conflicted her girlfriend seemed; she clearly wanted this, but not without Shayna's blessing.
If her love wanted to open their relationship - if that would truly make her happy - then Shayna would make it happen; but not before making sure Zoey wasn't going to get hurt. She took a deep breath before speaking up.

"Wait," she addressed Sonya's back and continued after watching her pause and turn at the door, "We were about to grab some food" - in her periphery, Shayna saw Zoey's head snap up in surprise as Sonya raised an eyebrow - "Wanna join?"

-

"A taco stand?" Sonya laughed, "Subtle."
"Hey, don't look at me," Shayna insisted, taking out her wallet as they approached the stand, "It's Zoey's favorite."
"Really," Sonya turned to look at the blushing woman, chuckling at how she looked away and rubbed the back of her neck nervously.
"It's- that's not-" Zoey sputtered defensively, "That's just a coincidence!"
The other women laughed, exchanging a knowing look before Shayna greeted the person working the stand.

"Hey, man," she said before looking back at Sonya. "What're you having? It's on me."
"Two tacos," Sonya replied, pushing her dark hair out of her eyes before wiggling her eyebrows at Zoey, "With all the fixings."
"Sounds like you're hungry," Shayna said with a grin, watching her girlfriend grow more and more flustered with each suggestive comment.
"Oh, I can always eat," Sonya ran her tongue along her lips slowly.
Zoey's face was bright red, mouth hanging open.

"So, uh, your order?" the man asked politely, looking over their shoulders at a few regulars making their way toward the stand.
Shayna apologized and placed her order, as well as Zoey's while she collected herself. Sonya chimed in with her actual order and soon, the three women were eating at a table in the park.
"Mm! I can see why this is your favorite," Sonya addressed Zoey from across the table before giving Shayna a mischievous look, "You know, aside from the coincidence."
Shayna snorted. She hadn't expected Sonya to be funny; that was one point in her favor.
Still, Shayna intended on getting to know her better, if only to ease the part of her that was still jealous - and even a bit terrified.
