"The desk beside me was empty,
Until you filled it with quiet warmth"

~ Empty Desk - IU ~

**

You had expected it to be a normal school day.

Well, it wasn't.

It was a quite morning, and you were at your desk, already in place for the first class of the day. You had your books out, and you were going through one of them.

Finally, your teacher walked in, but not alone. A boy was right behind him. He was quite, avoiding eye contact with everyone.

"Good morning, class," your teacher said, smiling brightly as he did every morning. "We have a new student today."

The teacher turned to the boy, the warm smile still on her face. "Please introduce yourself."

You saw him sigh, and he turned to the class.

"Uh... Hello. I'm Yang Jungwon. I hope... I hope we all get along..."

His voice was quite, but everyone could hear it. You smiled a bit at his shyness.

Your teacher nodded, still smiling. "We're all happy to meet you, Jungwon. Please, take a seat."

Jungwon smiled slightly at the teacher before looking around the class for a place to sit. His eyes landed on the only empty seat in the room, and this seat happened to be right next to you. He walked over quietly, as if trying not to be noticed.

Most of the others were already back to their conversations after they had said some polite greetings back.

After a bit, the class started.

You were writing your notes, but you couldn't help but glance at him every once in a while. There was something familiar in the way he seemed. As if he was trying to protect himself from the world.

You knew that feeling all too well.

The recess bell rang quite loudly, and all the students hurried out of the room for lunch.

Everyone except you and Jungwon.

As the afternoon sun hit your face, you pulled out your sketchbook. Drawing, to you, was the only way to just... run away from it all. The only way you could forget about everything that was happening.

Jungwon, still sitting next to you, seemed hesitant. Instead of leaving, he stayed next to you, watching you draw.

"What are you drawing?" his voice was quite as he finally spoke up.

You looked up at him, a bit surprised that he was speaking to you. Then, a soft smile came to your face as you turned to your sketchbook again, before speaking.

"Nothing in particular," your voice was the same lever of quite as his, but you were still smiling. "Just something I saw last night."

Jungwon nodded slowly, and the look in his eyes softened even more. It was as if your drawing was pulling him into another world.
