43| That's Not the Only Place He is

"Agnes, are you sure the girls will be alright?"

Wanda asked Agnes as they made their way to Dottie's house, arms linked.

"They'll be fine. Now are you ready to meet queen Cul de Sac and her merry homemakers?"

Agnes asked as they continued to walk towards Dottie's house, arms still linked.

"Agnes, Dottie can't be as bad as you say."

Wanda said with a bit of a laugh, as they made it to the woman's house, Agnes remembered a line she had to say despite Inez not having done the thing.

"Hmm, well, you'll notice her roses bloom under penalty for death. Inez thought it would be a great idea to paint them red last year and let's just say Dottie was beyond furious."

Agnes told the woman, getting a bit of a laugh out of Wanda as she told her what Inez had done.

"Wanda, can I give you a bit of friendly advice?"

Agnes asked Wanda as she stopped right in front of the woman, Wanda was not supposed to laugh at what Inez had done.

"Is it about the way how I'm dressed?"

Wanda asked as she had noticed Agnes looking her up and down, that was actually Agatha checking the woman out but nevertheless Wanda asked that question.

"Yes, but it's too late for that."

Agnes started off with covering for the fact that she was checking the other woman out, but she was also wearing pants so it wasn't too much of a stretch.

"Dottie is the key to everything in this town. Country club memberships, parties, school admissions..."

Agnes said trailing off as she said school admissions, giving a bit of side eye to Wanda, Agnes supposedly knew all this because of the grovelling she had to do after Inez painted her roses.

"Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, Alice is only six."

Wanda said with a bit of chuckle, she didn't seem to get it, she had to make a good impression on this woman if she ever hoped for Alice or any future children would go to school.

"You get in with Dottie and it'll be smooth sailing from here on out. I should know, because I know what happens when you're not in with Dottie, thanks to Inez. So just mind your P's and Q's and you're gonna do just fine."

Agnes told Wanda, who sort of nodded despite the fact that she was still not catching on, you had to be polite and make a good first impression on Dottie.

"Or maybe I could just be myself? More or less?"

Wanda said, Agnes staring at her blankly for a moment before laughing, she really hoped Wanda was joking.

"Oh, Wanda, that's good."

Agnes said playing it off as if Wanda was most definitely joking even though she didn't know this, causing Wanda to chuckle nervously as Agnes continued to laugh.

"Everybody, hurry up please."

The pair then heard the voice Agnes knew as Dottie come from behind her turning back around to face in the direction the woman was.
