Chapter 1: The Letter

The sun had barely risen when the knock at the door shattered the stillness of the morning. Elara Kingston pulled her sweater tighter around her shoulders as she opened the door to find a man in a crisp black suit standing on her porch.

"Miss Kingston?" he asked, his voice as sharp as his appearance.

"Yes?" she replied cautiously.

"I'm sorry to inform you that your father, Victor Kingston, has passed away."

Elara froze. Her father. The man she hadn't seen in over a decade. The man who had walked out on her and her mother without explanation.

Before she could respond, the man handed her an envelope. "He left this for you. And... there's the matter of his estate."

"Estate?" she echoed, her mind struggling to catch up.

"Kingston Manor," he clarified. "The property is now yours."

The words hit her like a tidal wave. Kingston Manor-the infamous mansion perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea. It had been abandoned for years, a local legend steeped in rumors of ghosts and tragedy.

Elara stared at the envelope in her hands, her name written in bold, unfamiliar handwriting. "Why now?" she muttered under her breath.

The man gave her a small, sympathetic smile. "Perhaps the letter will explain."

---

Hours later, Elara sat at her kitchen table, the letter open before her.

"My dearest Elara," it began.
"I know I am the last person you want to hear from, but I owe you the truth. The Kingston family has always been haunted-not by ghosts, but by secrets. I leave you the manor not as a burden, but as a key to unlocking the past. Trust no one, and trust yourself most of all.
Love,
Your father."

---

Elara's curiosity burned brighter than her anger. She packed her bags and booked a train ticket to the coastal town she thought she'd never return to. Whatever her father's secrets were, they had waited long enough.

As the train rumbled toward her childhood home, Elara couldn't shake the feeling that she was hurtling toward something far bigger than she could imagine.
