Teachers are strange creatures...

Mr.Seth, the grade 10 Social Studies teacher, was a bit, unhinged. Keep in mind, that everything I am going to say about him is coming from a student who respects him and his lessons wholeheartedly. On that note, one day Mr. Seth said during morning class that he hated Mondays, and the next week, he brought a prop sword with him and swung it around the classroom like a lunatic barbarian. It was a bit startling at first, but he made it work, saying, "Swords are historic weapons, and I am a history teacher so everything I do is for all intensive purposes." Perhaps the word, unhinged isn't the right word to describe him; I would consider Mr.Seth to be more situational if anything else. What I mean is that he can switch faces like a politician, acting crazy, loud, and quirky in front of kids, but usually is well-kept among his colleagues. Which is why It surprised me when he didn't show up to class.

Oddly enough, I didn't spot my first block teacher for the rest of the school day, however, the really strange thing is that if I take into account there was no substitute sent to our classroom in the morning, then the only reason for this would be that Mr. Seth just skipped school. It would be feasible for him to have suddenly come down with the flu and taken a sick leave, but for him to not even inform the school office staff is completely unexpected of him. On top of that, I know Mr.Seth's absence was on short notice because even other teachers were talking about him during lunchtime. A little-known fact is that Ophelia gets along very well with most of the school staff, and because of her, I get to eat lunch in the staff room sometimes. So while I was eating my food with Ophelia at our own special table, I overheard the principal chatting with the rest of the adults. Ms. Iguana, usually a level-headed lady, was on the phone with someone, sounding a bit mad, while a few of the teachers tried to calm their boss down. She began yelling even louder, and I could clearly hear her shout into her speakerphone, "He is being completely unreasonable!" This was followed by a hefty bang at the teacher's table. I typically ate lunch in the staffroom to get away from all the chaos in the cafeteria, but hearing the principal get all worked up like that, almost made me choke on my noodles. I had only ever seen her get this frustrated at a student, and even so, it was never enough to get her physically aggressive. For all I knew, Mr. Seth could have crashed his car into Mr. Iguana's and decided to make a run for it instead of giving her his insurance information. Nonetheless, something strange was happening among the teachers.

I had only one more class after lunch, but coming out from what happened in the staffroom made me feel a bit anxious. Ophelia luckily noticed and asked if I wanted her answers for the math homework, but I didn't want to risk her getting suspended because of me. And so, she and I just kept walking to our final class of the day, P.E.!
