The scent of rain lingered in the air as Bible stepped onto the balcony, one hand cradling his slightly rounded stomach. The cool evening breeze soothed the warmth of his skin, which had been sensitive ever since his second trimester began. He sighed, leaning against the railing, as his thoughts drifted.
Jes, his Alpha, was late again. It wasn’t unusual; Jes had been working harder than ever, ensuring their lives would be secure before their child arrived. But the emptiness in their shared apartment gnawed at Bible more than he cared to admit.
The bond between them thrummed faintly in the back of Bible’s mind, a soft reassurance that Jes was nearby. He turned his head at the faint sound of the front door opening and closing.
"Bible?" Jes's deep voice called from the hallway, laced with concern. The scent of sandalwood and musk, uniquely Jes, swept over Bible like a warm blanket, soothing the Omega's frayed nerves.
"Out here," Bible answered softly.
Jes appeared moments later, his tie loosened and his hair slightly disheveled. His golden-brown eyes immediately locked onto Bible, softening as they took in the sight of him standing against the skyline, bathed in moonlight.
“You should be resting,” Jes said, closing the distance between them and wrapping an arm protectively around Bible's waist. His free hand instinctively rested over Bible’s, both of them feeling the faint flutter of movement from within.
Bible tilted his head up, his lips quirking into a smile. "I missed you."
Jes frowned, guilt flickering across his features. "I’m sorry. The meetings ran longer than I expected, and I—"
"Jes." Bible cut him off gently, his voice firm but kind. "You’re here now. That’s what matters."
Jes exhaled, leaning down to press his forehead against Bible’s. The bond between them hummed louder, a pulse of love and devotion that words could never fully express.
“Have they been kicking a lot?” Jes murmured, his hand moving in small circles over Bible’s belly.
“A lot," Bible laughed softly. "I think they’ll be a fighter like you."
Jes chuckled, the sound rich and deep. “Let’s hope they don’t inherit my temper.”
“And let’s hope they don’t inherit my stubbornness,” Bible teased, leaning into Jes's touch.
Jes’s expression grew serious as he cupped Bible’s face in his hands. “I’ll be better, I promise. For you and for them. You won’t have to do this alone.”
“I know I won’t,” Bible whispered, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “Because we’re in this together.”
Jes kissed him then, slow and tender, pouring all the words he couldn’t say into the gesture. Bible melted into him, feeling safe, cherished, and loved beyond measure.
As the city lights twinkled around them, Jes rested his chin on Bible’s shoulder, both of them gazing out into the night. The life growing inside Bible was a promise of their future, a bond that would only grow stronger with time. And in that moment, surrounded by love and the promise of something greater, Bible knew they could face anything—together.
