Chapter Two: First Day

I spent the last few days moving my stuff into my apartment and getting settled in before my first day at the cafe. Turns out it's a 5 minute walk from my apartment so I will be saving so much on gas which is amazing.

I had lunch at the cafe the past few days to get the vibe of the business and taste the food/drinks they serve. I'm feeling pretty confident for my first day. I did my hair into a Dutch braid, leaving my bangs and a few face framing pieces out. I put on some mascara and concealer to look presentable with working in customer service.

It was a little chilly out for Los Angeles so I threw on my jacket and headed toward the cafe. As I approached the shop i could see into the lobby and I recognized the guy that I ran into a few days ago. I immediately got nervous and tried to just avoid him.

I walked into the shop and the guy at the cash register, his name is Sam, greeted me with a smile.

"Hey (Y/N), you ready for your first day?" He smiled at me as I walked behind the counter. I take my jacket off and hang it on the side of the store. I take my apron out of my bag and put it on.

"I'm as ready as I'll ever be, what am I starting on today?" I went to the side sink and washed my hands.

"You're gonna be with Hanna in the back making some desserts." I smile at him and glance into the lobby and see the guy looking my way. I smile at him and head to the back.

I'm actually really excited to work in the back today. I really enjoy working in a kitchen and I love baking. I follow Hanna around for most of the day learning the recipes and how the keep track of when to make things and how many. After a few hours of shadowing her, she got me to make up some pastries and cookies for tomorrow.

"You're doing a really good job for your first day. Might have to talk to the boss and get you to stay back here." I smile over at Hanna. "Yea I would love that. I used to bake all the time back home. It's comforting for me." I finished up the last of the pastries and wrapped them in plastic wrap and took them into the walk-in cooler.

I took all of the dishes to the sink and decided go take a break and grab a coffee from the front. I got Sam to show me how to make a latte and someone approached the counter.

"So this is why you recommended a cinnamon bun." I looked up and it was the guy from earlier. I smiled at him as Sam handed me my coffee.

"Yes and no. I recommend it because who doesn't love a cinnamon bun." I walked around the counter and took a seat into a booth and he followed. I gestured to the seat in front of me for him to sit and he did.

"So are you new to LA?" He asked taking a sip of his coffee.

"Yea I was craving a new start and thought that LA was a good idea. Hoping to maybe find a job in some kind of media company" I was feeling pretty nervous talking to him. This hasn't happened to me in a while.

"Oh what kind of job are you looking for?"

"I took some online courses in video and photo editing so I would love to do something like that."

He seemed to chipper up at that information and smiled. I looked at my watch and started to clean up.

"Sorry I hate to cut this short but I gotta get back to work but could I get your number maybe?"

I pull my phone out and he takes it from me and put his number in.

"I'm Spencer by the way."

"(Y/N)"

I smile at him and pocket my phone and head back into the kitchen to work on the dirty dishes. After I finished up it was time for me to head home so I clocked out and headed for the door.

I pulled my phone out to play so music for my walk home and saw that I had a new message. Spencer had texted himself from my phone after he added his number in.

Spencer
So you said that you did some classes on editing. Do you have anything that you've worked on, I would love to see some.

(Y/N)
Yea I'm on my way home and I'll send you some in a bit.

As soon as I walked in the door I booted up my Mac and sent some videos to my phone to send to Spencer. I sent him some photos as well that I had done edited as well.

Spencer
Oh wow these are really good. Y'know I work for a company that's in need of a video editor, I can see what I can do about getting you an interview.

(Y/N)
That would actually be so crazy, thank you! Obviously you don't have to but if it's something that you need please!

Spencer
Yes I'll let you know if a few days what they say.

I set my phone down and made myself some dinner and watched some reruns of my favourite shows. I called my mom again and told her another recap of my day. She seems less sad today but still says she misses me. It's reassuring to know I will always have her in my corner cheering me on.

We chatted for a bit as I did some last minute tidying before I got ready and went to sleep.

Authors Note:
Sorry these are long chapters. I haven't quite figured out how to cut them up. I kinda like doing day by day in each chapter with some cuts in between.

Doing a few chapters at a time while my ideas are flowing for this story and so you have something to sink into and get invested in (hopefully)

Thank you if you decided to read!
