Grace
I stayed along the now more familiar roads as I made my way to Hilltop. My only concern was being seen, but the route I was traveling through the woods insured that it wouldn't happen. I was incognito.
I continued through the forest when I heard a truck rumbling by on the near road. It sounded like a savior truck based on the way that they revved the engine, but I couldn't be so sure. Once I could see the familiar Hilltop walls through the forest, I made my way all the way around the side and to the back.
I noticed a truck outside of Hilltop and the open gates. I figured it was saviors by everything I saw. That didn't matter, I was still going in to find Maggie. I found a nearby tree towards the rear wall of Hilltop. I began to scale it and then made my way over their walls, quickly and safely lowering myself down.
"Who are you?" A man stepped out of his trailer as I walked around stealthily.
"I'm- I'm no one. I just live here." I tried to explain, thinking that this man was a savior.
"No you don't. I'm Dr. Carson. I'd know if you lived here. But you don't look like you're with those savior guys who just came marching in here, so who are you?" Dr. Carson asked.
"Wait- you're Dr. Carson? I'm Grace. Grace Greene. Is Maggie here? Is she okay?" I asked, surprised to have encountered a good person for once.
"She's fine. I think the saviors are going to leave soon, so we'll be good. I'll take you to her." He said as he peered over his shoulder and then guided me to a nearby trailer.
"Maggie?" I smiled as I entered and saw her lying on the couch.
"Grace? I- how'd you get here?" Maggie stood up, beaming.
"Woah, didn't the Dr. tell you to stay off your feet? That's what he told me at least." I walked over to her and motioned for her to sit back down.
"I do what I want." Maggie said
"Oh believe me, I know." I smiled, feeling good to be with her again.
"How are you? How's the baby?" I sat down next to her.
"I'm okay. The baby's okay." A small smile crept onto her face.
"Oh thank god." My nerves calmed down upon hearing that they were both doing alright.
"What are you doing here, Grace? It's not safe- the saviors are here." Maggie began to say in her authoritative tone.
"I came to see you. I had to know. Couldn't take it any longer." I explained.
"You came here all by yourself?" Maggie looked concerned.
"Well..." I paused for a moment, thinking about Carl. "Yeah. I did."
"Can I make you something to eat? Do you guys have food in here?" I asked.
Maggie pointed me to the stove and the food in their cabinets. There were cans of tomato soup, some cheese, and some bread. A grilled cheese sounded good to me, and based off of some of the pregnancy cravings that Maggie was eating back at Alexandria, I thought she'd like this.
I grilled up the bread and heated the tomato soup in a pan. I added the cheese and it actually smelled really good. Like, delicious.
I plated it up for Maggie and I sat down next to her. Sasha soon came in through the door, a surprised look on her face when she saw me.
"Grace? What are you doing here?" She smiled.
"I asked her the same damn thing." Maggie laughed with a mouthful of grilled cheese.
