The moment I close my bedroom door, I lean back against it, trying to process everything that just happened with Everett. I need a distraction, so I reach for my phone and text Caylee, my best friend.

Me: Can you come over? I need to talk!

A few minutes later, my phone buzzes with a reply.

Caylee: Be right there.

While I wait, I pace my room, glancing at the posters covering my walls. They all remind me of who I am and what I love—art, music, the things Everett has always teased me about. It makes my heart race when I think about his confession. Was he really serious?

The doorbell rings, and I practically sprint downstairs to let Caylee in. As soon as I open the door, she burst in. "What happened?!" she says breathlessly.

"My gosh. Did you run all the way here?" I ask sarcastically, knowing she wouldn't in a million years.

"Whatever. Whatever. Let's go upstairs. And you're gonna spill" She grins at me, clearly bubbling with ideas.

"Okay, but listen," If you judge me, you're dead.," I say, feeling the weight of my thoughts.

We go up the stairs. I open my door. Caylee plops down on my bed, her expression turning serious.

"What happened?"

So, I tell her everything—the ride home, the unexpected conversation, and his apology. I can see the wheels turning in her head.

"So, you guys are basically meant to be together now, right?" she says playfully, raising an eyebrow.

"I don't know about 'meant to be.' He's teased me my entire life. It's hard to believe he suddenly likes me," I reply, incredulous.

"People change! Maybe he's genuinely interested. You should at least give him a shot," Caylee advises. "But first, let's focus on the carnival this weekend. Why not invite him? It'll give you both a chance to test the waters."

"Invite him?" I almost laugh at the idea. "Have you even met me? I can't do that!"

"Oh come on! You can do it!" she urges. "And if he says yes, you can have fun and see if this new side of him is real." Caylee's enthusiasm is infectious. Maybe a casual outing could help me understand what's really going on between Everett and me.

. "Okay, fine," I say, my heart racing at the thought. "I guess I could text him."

"Do it now! Let's plan this out!" she exclaims, almost bouncing on my bed with excitement. I grab my phone, the screen lighting up with the familiar contacts. I hesitate, but Caylee gives me an encouraging nod. Taking a deep breath, I shoot a text to Everett.

Me: Hey, I was thinking about maybe going to that carnival this weekend with Caylee. Would you maybe wanna join us?

For a moment, I feel a knot in my stomach, anxious as I wait for his response.

Caylee leans closer, peeking at my phone screen. After what feels like an eternity, my phone buzzes with his reply.

Everett: Yeah, sure. Seems cool.

The knot in my stomach loosens, and I can't help but smile. "He said yes! Well, he said 'yeah, sure' I think that's good."

I look at Caylee in disbelief. "See? This is going to be great! Just relax and have fun. Don't overthink it," she reassures me.

As we plan our outing, my nerves begin to settle, replaced with a mix of excitement and anticipation. This weekend could change everything. And maybe, just maybe, I'll get the answers I am searching for about Everett.
