"I've been thinking about us and how our relationship could affect work. I care about you, and I don't want anyone to think you're only here because of me," he said, his heart racing.
"I understand," Emma replied, her expression softening. "But I chose to work at Reynolds Tech because I believe in what we're doing .You and I... we're more than just a boss and an employee."
"I know, but it's complicated," Jacob continued, running a hand through his hair."What if this doesn't work out? I don't want to put you in a position where you might feel uncomfortable."
Emma leaned closer, her eyes locking onto his. "I'm willing to take that risk if you are. I believe in us, Jacob."
Her words filled him with hope, but he still felt the weight of responsibility pressing down on him."What if we keep things under wraps for now? Just until the board meeting is over?"
"I can do that," Emma agreed, though a hint of disappointment flickered in her eyes.
They spent the rest of the evening wrapped in each other's arms, but Jacob couldn't shake the feeling that he was walking a tightrope.
