Agatha flew them both off the mountain and back to its base, where the door to the cottage awaited. They entered and Agatha set down the Darkhold on the small table next to their couch, turning to Rio.
"I thought you were going to try the Darkhold," Rio said as Agatha set it down.
"It's mine now, Rio. Its knowledge and its power. No one else can take it and from where I stand we have plenty of time." Agatha raised an eyebrow, giving a teasing look. She hooked an arm around Rio's neck, their faces inches away from each other.
Rio rolled her eyes.
Agatha let her eyes lower to Rio's lips, which were curled into a small smile. "But I know what we can do now. How about we do this marriage?" Agatha said.
"Ah- commitment ceremony."
It was Agatha's turn to roll her eyes. "Same thing."
"I see we're back to our old selves," Rio commented.
"Not quite," Agatha corrected confidently. In fact, she felt more confident than ever before. "We're even more powerful."
Her lips met Rio's and she let out her power as she pushed them both back out of the cottage, choosing where to go. She could sense things happening all over the world, her magic coming effortlessly when it would have taken her time and patience before. She could even sense witches more than she already could.
In a quick decision, Agatha snapped her fingers and changed both of them into suits, no longer burdened with the need for thick clothes to keep warm on the mountain.
Rio pulled away to take in their surroundings. They stood in a small room that was empty, only one window and a door providing a break from the dank stone walls. Firelight streamed through the window, as well as noise from a crowd cheering outside.
"Right now George Fredric Hansel's music celebration is about to set off the royal fireworks," Agatha whispered, using a finger to push Rio's head to face the window. But she kept her eyes on Rio as she looked out the window, then looked back at Agatha with an amused smile on her face.
"Ah, Scotland. How romantic."
"Oh I know," Agatha murmured, feeling deliciously dangerous. "And we're going to start a fire."
"What does this have to do with us getting married?"
Agatha grinned. "You admitted it was a marriage! Finally."
Rio rolled her eyes. "Okay Agatha. It's a marriage."
"Perfect," Agatha lifted her hand into the air and let her magic fly through her. She could feel how enhanced her power was now that it was connected to the Darkhold. She marveled at it for a second before waving her hand and releasing it to do her bidding.
An explosion sounded from outside as Agatha exploded the fireworks into a fire instead. People screamed as it lit up the area. "Happy wedding day, my love."
"Is this the part where we say our vows?" Rio asked sarcastically, yet playfully at the same time.
"It doesn't matter," Agatha replied, allowing herself to get lost in Rio's gold-flecked deep brown eyes. The screams outside grew louder, making her more impatient. "I know how much you hate human traditions. But we can make a deal, since you seem to like those more than vows."
Rio tilted her chin up as the light coming through the window started to get brighter and the screams died down. Either people had run away or they had died.
Agatha raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"I love you," Rio said as she closed her eyes for a moment. She lowered her head. "That's the deal. We both love each other. Forever."
"That's a deal I can keep," Agatha felt her heart beat faster. "We both love each other. Forever."
They shook hands and Agatha gasped when Rio tugged her closer and their lips met. Rio bit at Agatha's lower lip, making Agatha squirm as tingles went up her back along with Rio's hands.
Agatha felt heat rush through her veins, partially from the flames crawling up into the room but partially from Rio's lips. She'd never tired of them, not even through the many years they'd been together.
Rio suddenly pounced, making Agatha slam into the hard ground and let out a grunt of pain. But the pain was short-lived as Agatha felt the rush of the Darkhold-enhanced magic in her blood and she rolled on top of Rio instead of letting Rio do anything else to her.
"Ooh, getting braver?" Rio taunted skeptically as Agatha pushed her down, sweat dripping down her back from the flames only a few feet away.
"It's not like I haven't done this before," Agatha answered as she rolled her neck to bite at Rio's chin.
Rio smiled as she looked down to where Agatha lay on her chest. "We're in a room full of fire and this is what you're doing."
"It is getting hot in here, isn't it?" Agatha commented. She ran her hands down Rio's hips, savoring how Rio didn't fight it. Instead, Rio simply bit her lip and watched as Agatha kissed her down her front.
"Do you want to get their souls now?" Agatha asked and Rio looked down at her, confused.
"Right now?"
"It's your wedding gift, after all," Agatha said slyly. She slid up Rio's body as well as she could in her sweat-soaked clothes and flicked Rio in the nose. "Take what you want."
"Are you sure?"
"Just do it, Rio, you know you want to," Agatha murmured seductively into Rio's ear. "We'll still be together."
"Yet alone," Rio replied, though Agatha could hear in her voice she didn't really believe it.
"Come on, Lady Death, where is your sense of adventure?" Agatha answered tauntingly.
Rio grabbed at Agatha's back, laughing. "Okay, I'm going."
"Make sure to tell them why they died," Agatha smiled wickedly as she watched Rio's face meld into her skull, harshly reminding Agatha that this was Death.
She was married to Death herself.
She chuckled to herself as she licked Rio's neckline, feeling her shiver underneath her touch. Rio didn't fight back, an unusual occurrence, though it might be because she was also claiming peoples' souls at the same time.
Agatha couldn't imagine how wonderful that could feel. The way Rio always described soul-collecting made it sound like eating a giant feast fit for royalty.
Agatha bit her lip as Rio looked back at her, feeling weaker under her gaze. Rio's hands hungrily edged their way to Agatha's suit-coat and tore it off, revealing the sweat-stained button-up shirt underneath. Agatha let her finish, then pushed her down again as Agatha ripped open Rio's coat.
She was sweating as well, something Agatha took as a compliment. Rio could choose what temperature she was at, and choosing to be the same as Agatha was saying something.
Rio gasped as her face returned to normal, done feeding on the dead, though there would no doubt be many more soon enough as the fire kept burning.
Agatha's lips ravenously came down on Rio's. Her tongue invaded Rio's mouth and she clawed at the buttons of Rio's shirt.
"Love, you're on fire," Rio said, pulling away to blow on Agatha's back where she hadn't realized a flame had started. It went out almost immediately, but Rio still had Agatha stop. "Let's take it home, hm? I don't want to have to save you."
Agatha sighed. "Of course." She quickly pulled them up and they summoned the cottage door back, stepping into their house.
Agatha smiled to herself as they entered the cottage.
She could stay here forever.
