The streets of Ninjago City were painted with the crimson glow of the setting sun, its light casting jagged shadows through shattered windows and twisted steel. The city, once powered by hope and overcoming challenges, rebuilding itself time and time again, was now left in destruction, even the smallest fragments of hope completely lost. Thick smoke curled into the sky, encapsulating the remaining rays of sunlight, as Lloyd, the Green Ninja, the Chosen One, was the only one left. He stood at the edge of the chaos, atop Borg Tower, watching as he failed to protect what destiny had told him to.

The people.

LLOYD'S POV

I can't do this.

I can't do it this time.

The mission was clear: take down Lord Garmadon, the Lord of the Shadows and Master of Destruction.

If it was any other villain, this would be a breeze, as none of their losses personally affected me, for their evil actions deserved to be punished. They ruined hundreds of innocent lives, leaving scars, mental and physical, as their outlooks on life would now forever be tainted by their past trauma. I always believed that my father would be different - fathers are meant to support you, and be a role model. In an ideal life, he would be the affected civilian, not the cause of all of this.

As I stared into the abyss that my father had created, I couldn't help but feel it staring back, taunting me for what I should have become. I'd always thought this moment would feel different - cleaner, simpler, effective. As a child, I idolized my father. I'll be just like him someday. Memories flooded back from when I would always sneak into his study, trying on his dark helmet, and mimicking his commanding tone with playful giggles; yet now they felt like relics from another life.

It didn't matter what I felt. I'm the Green Ninja, and people are relying on me so that they don't suffer the same fate. After all, I should be grateful for destiny choosing me, and the fact that I'm still alive. Sometimes, I just want to be a kid again, when I pretended to be evil and steal candy from my neighbours, or I would have tantrums over not getting the right flavour of cotton candy, throwing my arms around and stomping around the village's fountain, kicking pennies into it. Attempting to shake off my thoughts, I hopped down off the roof and slid down the ledge, leaping from clothing lines to balcony fences.

Eventually, I reached the remnants of a burned-out marketplace, the crumbling structures echoing the hollow sound of my footsteps. Before I reached the roof, there were hundreds of stone soldiers that I had to fight, some of their eyes glowing with the same heartless light I feared might flicker within my own. Each strike of my blade had felt heavier than the last, the weight of the destruction piling on with every swing.

Staying alert, I finally recognised Mystake's old tea shop, smiling slightly at the familiarity before twisting the rusted doorknob and pushing the creaky door open. Glancing around, everything seemed relatively intact, even though Mystake had sacrificed herself long ago, the occasional tea bag falling onto the floor, scattering powder across the spruce planks. A flash of light caught my eye as I glanced at a broken mirror, the shards littering the floor, seemingly broken by my father's army. Stopping in front of the pile of rubble, my reflection distorted in one of the shards: my green eyes glimmered faintly, but as I looked closer, they seemed to darken, a shadow of my father's fiery red gaze bleeding into my features. No. No. This can't be real. I staggered back, my pulse quickening.
