Mickey was fiddling with the drawstring of her hoodie as she walked through the halls of the school. Her mind was in another dimension, hence her surprise when someone caught her arm and pulled her into the empty, out of use stairwell. She was prepared to swing when she looked up and saw who it was. She let out a breath of relief as she looked up at Ant.

"You scared me," she said, taking a step back to give him some space. She didn't realise how close he pulled her. She wasn't sure where they were, if he intended on pulling her that close.

"Sorry, I wanted to catch you before class."

"Are you okay? It looks like you and Spider made up," Mickey commented, looking down at her feet. She shook her head then. That wasn't her. She didn't cower from anything, she faced it head on. So, why was she refusing to look him in the eye? Why was she being quiet and deflated?

She has no energy left. She wasn't herself. And evidently Ant had noticed. He said her name and she looked into his eyes then, trying to decipher what he was feeling.

"We did. Well, after he grovelled and I punched him  for ever going near you," he said, a smile on his face as he said those words. He was proud of himself, and he should be.

"I'm glad you did," she said. "Punch him, I mean. He deserved it from both ends."

"He definitely did," he said, his voice low as his hands snaked to her waist. She brought her own up to his neck and played with the hair at the back of his neck and he looked her up and down. "I missed you."

"I missed you, too," she said, giving in to every thought she'd ever had about him and kissing him without hesitation. He kissed her back, and then there was no stopping them.

"We have to get to class," she breathed against his lips, giving him an out if he wanted one. But he didn't take it. Instead, he leaned down to whisper in her ear.

"Fuck class."

She shivered as she felt his breath against the skin of her neck. Without warning, Ant lifted her off the ground and set her down on the cabinet in the corner. It was the perfect height. Mickey tugged at his hair and revelled in the way he felt, pressed up against her, in a place neither one of them should be. She kept one hand at his neck as her other slipped under the fabric of his hoodie.

Things were getting heated. Fast.

And when the door to the stairwell opened, neither one of them payed their intruder any attention, neither one of them stopped what they were doing.

•••••

Sitting at the bench in the quad, Mickey couldn't help but bite her lip when she thought back to what happened in that stairwell. It was safe to say that that was her new favourite place in this school. She was waiting for Malakai, and she could hear every word the students around her were saying about her. Rumors spread like wildfire around Hartley, but she didn't care.

Apparently they hooked up in the stairwell during class.

I thought they broke up.

I thought she had a thing with Spider, now. I heard they kissed at that bunker party.

She's trying to taste the whole friend group.

What a slut.

I can't believe he's still with her.

Mickey looked right at one of the blond girls walking past with her friend. She flipped her off with a smile on her face just as Malakai came out of the building and made a beeline for her. He sat down across from her.

"You look better than you did this morning," he commented. "I take it you and Ant made up?"

"More than made up," she said with a wink and watched as he gasped playfully, putting a hand to his chest. "Make-up sex is the best sex."

"Unbelievable," he said. "I knew you didn't follow the rules but I didn't take you for a sex at school girl."

"I could say the same about you," Mick shot back, raising an eyebrow.

"Touché," he said, leaning his arms against the table and looking at her. "Mind if I ask what the fall out was about?"

"Spider kissed me at the bunker," she said, rolling her eyes and nodding her head in confirmation as Malakai's mouth fell open.

"So, it's true," he said. "The black eye, that was you?"

"Nope, all Ant."

"I wish I could've seen that happen," he said, looking off into the distance as he pictured the moment Ant's fist connected with Spider's eye. "It must've been a glorious moment."

"Are you and Amerie back on?" Mickey asked, steering the conversation away from herself. She wanted to know what was happening between the two of them from Malakai's point of view. Amerie was a great friend, but she could also be a little self-involved sometimes and not see things from a different point of view.

"I know you're friend with her, but can I be honest?"

"Of course, what happens in the quad stays in the quad."

"I'm confused. I don't know what's going on. I like her, so much, but this whole things is- I don't even know how to say it," he said, letting out a breath.

"Figure your feelings out, Malakai," she said, offering him something. "It's no good to go into something without knowing how you feel."

"Yeah, but she's just so-"

"Demanding?"

"Yeah, I guess."

"I get it," she said, nodding her head. He looked up at her and his eyes widened slightly, afraid that he'd said too much to the wrong person.

"Don't worry. What comes in one ear, goes right out the other," she said, mimicking the motion with her hand before she mimed locking her lips. "I'm a vault. And always here if you need to talk."

"Thanks, Mick," he said, just as Ant rushed out the door in a hurry. She watched as he ran up to her, kissed her and then continued running. She turned around and her and Malakai watched as Ant ran towards a car that looked a lot like his mother's. Mick noticed another familiar car parked a few feet away from that one and the window rolling down.

"I gotta run," she said, getting up from the bench and grabbing her back. "Meeting with a lawyer."

Mickey turned around and walked off before Malakai could question her. She scrunched her eyebrows at how easily she had just let that information slip from her mouth. Malakai must've really been a safe place if her brain didn't allow her to hold her tongue back.

She pulled open the passenger side door, throwing her bag into the back, and smiling at Tyler. He smiled right back at her, but didn't say anything about it. Mickey hadn't smiled in weeks, so she was glad when he decided against questioning her and just enjoying seeing that expression on her face.
