The moon hung high in the starry sky, casting its pale light into Ash's room. He lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling, his hands behind his head. Pikachu dozed peacefully beside him, but Ash's mind was anything but calm.Lately, his feelings for Serena had been... different. For years, she had been his best friend, his partner in crime, the one person he could always count on. But now, whenever he thought about her, his heart beat faster, and his thoughts became a jumbled mess.
"Why can't I stop thinking about her?" he muttered to himself. He closed his eyes, recalling her laugh, the way her sapphire eyes lit up when she was excited, the gentle way she always understood him.
And then it hit him.
"Do I... like Serena?" he whispered, his cheeks warming at the thought. He shook his head, trying to dismiss it, but the feeling wouldn't go away.

The next day at school, Ash was more distracted than ever. Serena met him at the gate, her usual cheerful smile brightening his morning.
"Hey, Ash! Ready for gym class?" she asked, adjusting her bag.
"Uh, y-yeah," Ash stammered, avoiding her gaze as a faint blush crept up his cheeks.
Serena tilted her head, curious. "Are you feeling okay? You're acting kind of weird."
"I'm fine!" Ash blurted, his voice a little too loud. He quickly cleared his throat. "I mean, I'm fine. Just tired, that's all."
Serena frowned slightly but didn't press further. "Alright. If you say so."
Throughout the day, Ash couldn't help but steal glances at her. Every time Serena laughed or smiled, he felt his heart skip a beat. He tried to play it cool, but he wasn't fooling anyone-least of all Serena.

By lunchtime, Serena decided she couldn't ignore it anymore. They sat together under their usual tree in the courtyard, Serena watching as Ash fidgeted with his food, barely eating.
"Okay, spill," she said, crossing her arms.
"Spill what?" Ash asked, feigning innocence but failing miserably.
"You've been acting strange all day," Serena said, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Did I do something to upset you?"
"No!" Ash said quickly, looking up at her. "It's not you, Serena. I swear."
"Then what is it?" she asked gently, her concern clear.
Ash hesitated, his cheeks turning pink. "It's nothing, really," he mumbled, looking away.
Serena studied him for a moment before sighing. "Fine. But if something's bothering you, you know you can tell me, right?"
Ash nodded, his heart aching. "Yeah, I know."
As Serena turned her attention back to her lunch, Ash let out a silent breath. He knew he couldn't hide this forever, but the thought of confessing his feelings terrified him.
Still, one thing was certain: he was in love with Serena. And that realization only made his feelings grow stronger.
