Our first child, Adrian, was born on a snowy winter night. Rosaline, exhausted but radiant, held him in her arms, tears streaming down her face as she gazed at his tiny features.
“He has your eyes,” she murmured, her voice filled with awe.
“And your determination,” I added with a laugh, remembering how strong she had been through the long hours of labor.
Adrian had my brown hair and brown eyes but carried an undeniable spark of Rosaline’s fierce spirit. From the moment he could crawl, he was always curious, always exploring.
“Papa, what’s this?” he would ask, holding up scraps of wood from my workshop.
“That’s going to be a table,” I’d reply, showing him how to smooth the edges.
Rosaline adored him, often calling him her “little knight.” She would read to him by the fire, telling him stories of her past—carefully edited, of course—and teaching him to write his name.
