Morning Conversation – Ferro and His Dorm Mates

Jin: "Ferro, you’re acting weird again this morning. What’s going on?"

Ferro: hesitant "Nothing. Why do you think something’s wrong?"

Kakeru: "Oh, I don’t know, maybe because you disappear at night? Your bed was empty again, and I saw muddy footprints near the balcony."

Ishaan: "Yeah, and don’t think we didn’t notice last time either. Where do you keep sneaking off to?"

Ferro: trying to stay casual "I just go for a walk. It’s hard to sleep sometimes."

Jin: "A walk? In the middle of the night? In this weather? And in Dream Forest of all places? Are you serious right now?"

Kakeru: "Come on, Ferro, just tell us. You’re clearly hiding something."

Ferro: sighing "Okay, fine. I go to the lakeside. It’s quiet there. Peaceful."

Ishaan: "The lakeside? You mean the same lakeside where predators prowl at night? The same place where people say strange things happen under the full moon?"

Kakeru: "You’re insane. That’s not peaceful; that’s a death wish."

Ferro: softly "I’m not alone."

Jin: narrowing his eyes "What do you mean? Did someone go with you? Don’t tell me you dragged someone else into this madness."

Ferro: shaking his head "No. It’s not a person. It’s… a wolf."

Kakeru: "A wolf? You’ve got to be kidding me. A wolf is with you at night? And you’re not, I don’t know, terrified?"

Ferro: smiling faintly "She’s not just any wolf. She protects me."

Ishaan: "Wait, wait. She? How do you even know it’s a ‘she’? And why would a wild animal protect you? That makes no sense."

Ferro: "Her name is Hanako. She’s… different. I don’t know how to explain it, but she looks at me like—like she knows me. Like I’m… hers."

Jin: "Okay, this is officially the strangest thing I’ve ever heard. You’re saying this wolf, Hanako, protects you? From what?"

Ferro: hesitating "There’s… something out there. Something that wants to hurt me. Hanako keeps it away."

Kakeru: "Something? Like what? Another animal?"

Ferro: quietly "No. Not an animal. It’s… worse than that. It’s dark, and I can feel it watching me sometimes. Hanako senses it too. That’s why she stays close."

Ishaan: visibly unsettled "You’re saying there’s some thing out there, hunting you? And this wolf is the only thing keeping you safe?"

Ferro: nodding "She’s not just a wolf. She’s more than that. I think… I think she sees me as her pup. She watches over me like I’m hers to protect."

Jin: skeptical "You’re telling us a wild animal, a predator, has decided you’re her kid? And she’s fighting off some mysterious threat to keep you alive? Do you hear yourself right now?"

Ferro: firmly "I know how it sounds, but it’s true. Hanako would die for me. And I trust her completely."

Kakeru: "Ferro, this is madness. What if this ‘threat,’ whatever it is, gets to you anyway? What if it gets to her? You can’t just rely on a wolf to protect you."

Ferro: softly "She’s strong. Stronger than anything I’ve ever seen. But I know… I know it’s dangerous for her too. She knows it too. But she still stays."
