Mira stood at the edge of the Resistance's temporary encampment, her gaze fixed on the horizon where the sun dipped below the jagged mountains. The soft glow of twilight painted the sky in hues of amber and violet, but Mira barely noticed. Her mind was far away, lost in memories of Keith.
She could still hear his voice, calm and steady, guiding them through plans, giving them hope in moments of despair. Mira closed her eyes, and a memory surfaced—Keith, sitting beside her after their first mission together. His smile had been rare, but that night, he had let his guard down.
"You did well today," Keith had said, his voice tinged with pride. "You’re stronger than you think, Mira."
She had laughed then, brushing off his words. But now, those same words echoed in her mind, a bittersweet reminder of everything she had lost.
Footsteps approached, but Mira didn’t turn. She knew who it was.
Ace and Baron stopped a few steps behind her, hesitant. Baron glanced at Ace, who gave him a slight nod before stepping forward.
"We’ve been looking for you," Ace said, his tone softer than usual.
Mira didn’t respond. She wrapped her arms around herself, as if shielding her heart from the ache that threatened to overwhelm her.
Baron stepped closer, his voice uncharacteristically quiet. "Mira, I... I keep thinking about Keith. About how he always had this way of making you believe everything would be okay, even when things seemed impossible."
Ace sat down on a nearby rock, running a hand through his hair. "You know, Keith wasn’t just a leader to us. He was... family. And he believed in us. In you, Mira."
Mira turned to face them, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I don’t know if I can do this without him. He was always the one who knew what to do. Always the one who kept us together."
Ace met her gaze, his voice steady. "Keith saw something in you, Mira. That’s why he trusted you to lead when he wasn’t around. He knew you’d rise to the occasion, even if you didn’t believe it yourself."
Baron nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Remember when we were in that old outpost, and Keith got stuck trying to fix the control panel? He refused to let anyone else do it, but you stepped in and got it working in half the time. He was so impressed, even if he didn’t say it outright."
Mira let out a soft laugh, the memory bringing a flicker of warmth to her chest. "Yeah... he always did have a stubborn streak."
The three of them fell into a comfortable silence, the weight of their shared loss settling between them.
"We’re not asking you to move on," Ace said gently. "We just want you to know that we’re here. We’re in this together, for Keith and for each other."
Mira took a deep breath, the cool night air filling her lungs. She wasn’t ready to let go of her grief, but she wasn’t alone. Keith had left her with more than memories—he had left her with a team that believed in her as much as he had.
For the first time since Keith’s sacrifice, Mira felt a small spark of hope.

Back on Earth:
The air around the Brawlers was heavy with tension as they gathered in their familiar meeting spot, an old, abandoned warehouse near the outskirts of the city. The faint sound of a distant breeze rustling through broken windows seemed to echo their quiet anticipation. Each of them was processing the news they had just heard from Drago, but none could escape the gravity of the situation.
