Alex's P.O.V.
I was enjoying our peaceful days. Cain had been busy with his duties. We didn't get the chance to plan our wedding. My father didn't have any family left. So my mother suggested holding a small ceremony in our garden. I agreed because I hated to be the center of attention. The boys were excited about the event. To me, it was just something to solidify our union. Eva had started walking. It was hard to control her. She was rowdier than the boys. Ethan had found his calling. He liked to play musical instruments. Cain had built a soundproof room for the boy. Ethan could play as hard as he wanted.
Adriel was a sports fanatic. He tried different things and stuck with what he liked the most. I had bought the house I had rented. My parents and the kids liked living there, so why not? It was a Monday. I was in Spain for a conference. I could sense that people weren't happy to see me. They didn't know I would be there to oversee the meeting. A few alphas weren't pleased with Maverick's new rules. Maverick had changed since I had warned him. He took his role as the alpha king seriously now.
The conference went smoothly. No one dared to protest when my men appeared. The rules were reasonable. I would have stopped Maverick if it wasn't so. I was about to leave when Maverick blocked me. He grinned and asked, "Should I start preparing for the wedding?" I sighed and replied, "Ask your brother. He has the right to invite whoever he wants." Maverick laughed and uttered, "My mother asked me to help you organize the event. I told her I don't want to get killed." I contemplated and declared, "I wouldn't mind your help, but keep in mind that we will be holding a small wedding at our house." Maverick gasped and stated, "Really? I can't believe this. I will finally get a chance to visit my brother's mansion."
I left before Maverick could ruin my day. I hadn't forgotten how he loathed me. I went back to my office. Before I knew it, I had to leave for another mission. I arrived home late. Cain was enjoying a glass of whiskey in the living room with my father. I hugged Cain and asked, "Did you have a good day?" Cain hummed and replied, "Yes, I can take a break now." My father put his glass down and uttered, "It's time to check on the kids. Have a great night." I gazed at my father and uttered, "You seem tired, Dad." My father ran his fingers through his hair and replied, "It's old age. I sometimes forget how old I am." I smiled at my father and said, "I love you, Dad." My father stroked my head and uttered, "I love you too, son."
Cain pulled me onto his lap after my father left. He stuck his nose in the crook of my neck and declared, "It was nice of you to accept Maverick's help, Alex." I hummed and uttered, "I would move mountains for you, Cain. I hope your brother doesn't go overboard." Cain laughed and said, "You know Maverick too well." Cain and I discussed matters regarding the kids while drinking. I almost fell asleep on the sofa. Cain kissed my cheek and uttered, "Let's go to bed, sweetheart." I nodded and followed Cain to our room. We took a shower and went straight to bed. Eva patted my cheek in the morning. I groaned and asked, "What's wrong, Eva?" Eva groaned and yelled, "Grandma!"
I jumped out of bed when I sensed my mother's pain. I grabbed Eva and ran to my parent's room. I gasped when I saw my mother's swollen toe. I put Eva on the bed and asked, "What happened, Mom?" My mom smiled and answered, "Nothing, son. I didn't watch where I was going while running after Eva." I used a healing spell to cure my mother. Eva clapped and yelled, "Good!" My father picked her up and said, "Come here, you little rascal. You have done enough damage for today." I sighed while looking at my mother. I grabbed my mother's hand and said, "Be careful next time, Mom. I'll be devastated if something happens to you or Dad."
My mother pulled me into her arms and said, "It's so nice to hear that from you, Alex." I cupped my mother's face and replied, "I may not show it, but I love you immensely." My mother kissed my forehead and uttered, "I love you too, son." Cain walked into the room and asked, "Are you alright, mother?" My mother nodded and answered, "Yes, I am more than alright. I'm excellent." Cain chuckled and declared, "Why don't we go somewhere nice today? We all need a break." The boys didn't have school. I helped my mother stand and said, "A picnic in the pack's forest would be great." We had breakfast and then started preparing for our trip.
The boys jumped into the water when we arrived at the lake. Cain and I set everything up while my parents played with the kids. Cain sat on the picnic blanket and uttered, "Come, join me." I sat behind Cain and pulled him into my arms. Cain hummed in satisfaction. I kissed Cain's head and uttered, "Why don't you nap? I will wake you up when it's time for lunch." Cain gazed at the kids and replied, "It's okay. I love watching the kids play. Look how happy they are. They will get cranky and unfriendly as they grow up." I laughed and said, "Not when you raise them right." Cain groaned and uttered, "Oh, please. You already know how brutal Adriel will get."
I kissed Cain's cheek and said, "Don't worry. We will be there to guide them." Adriel and Ethan ran to us and yelled in unison, "Let's go running, Dad!" Cain smiled and uttered, "Alright, but you two better buckle up." Eva squealed when Cain changed his form. She clutched her father's fur. Cain nuzzled her. Adriel changed into his wolf form and yipped. His fur had the same collar as Cain's. My mother cheered when Ethan changed his form. He was small but beautiful. Ethan's pitch-black fur shone brightly in the sun. Cain took a stand and started running. The boys tried to keep up. I noticed that Ethan was agile. It was a good trait. He could join a pack later if he wanted. My father waved at the Cain and the boys and yelled, "Have fun, guys!"
Eva tried to follow her brother's. I grabbed her and said, "Your time will come soon, darling." I dried Eva off and gave her a snack. My parents joined me on the picnic blanket. I was about to talk to them when Maverick appeared. Maverick greeted us and said, "I would like to invite you all for dinner tonight, Alex. My mate is a great cook. You won't regret your decision to join us." Eva had fallen asleep in my arms. Maverick gazed at her and uttered, "It's amazing how all your biological kids look like my parents." I huffed and replied, "Don't worry. The third one will look like me." Maverick laughed and asked, "So, are you guys coming?" I sighed and uttered, "Sure."
We had a great time at the lake. We visited Maverick's mansion at seven. Maverick's mate was happy to see us. He did his utmost best to entertain us. The boys became friends with Maverick's kids. They didn't want to leave at the end. Cain promised to visit more in the future. I was exhausted when we got home. We went to bed early that night. I frowned when I saw Maverick standing in my living room with a wedding planner the next day. He had the whole wedding day planned out. I groaned when he asked me, "What do you think about arriving in a chariot, Alex?" I rubbed my forehead in frustration. I was stupid to accept Maverick's help.
