Chapter Three: Start Somewhere

It had been a few days since Spencer had said he would talk to his boss. I'm starting to think I had my hopes up a little too high. I don't have any real experience in that kind of thing so I guess I understand.

It had been pretty slow at the cafe today so I was up with Sam on the till assisting with making drinks. I love making the lattes so I can try to make fun art on the top.

Sam was on his break so I was running the till and making the coffees by myself until he got back. I was in the middle of cleaning a few mugs when a customer came in.

Without looking at who it was, I greeted them.

"Good Afternoon, what can I get started for ya?"

As I look up I see that it's Spencer and he seems to brighten up as he notices it's me.

"Hey, sorry I haven't texted you, I actually just got off the phone with my boss. They should be calling you anytime. They really liked your stuff."

My eyes must have bugged out of my head.

"I could kiss you, that's amazing. Thank you!"

I blushed a little at what I just said but decided to hope it went over his head. (It didn't)

"Yea so hopefully I'll be seeing you a bit more soon. As for the coffee, make me your favourite."

I smile at him and input the total to the card reader and start making a latte. Since it's fall I've been experimenting with flavours and I have perfected 'autumn in a cup'. It's a chai tea latte with pumpkin syrup and espresso.

When I did the hot milk I tried to make a little smiley face and it was actually pretty cute. I hand him his cup at the coffee station and he chuckles slightly at the design.

"I assume you're on lunch from the office?"

He grabs a lid and puts it on his cup and takes a sip. His eye brows raise in surprise.

"Woah this is really good. Yea I'm about to head back now. I'll text you later though."

As he turns to leave I just watch him go. As the bell rings signalling the door is closed and Spencer is gone I hear Sam snicker. I turn around behind the counter at him tying his apron back on.

"You got a little drool on your chin."

He makes a move to wipe your chin and you swat his hand away.

"Oh shut up."

You laugh and get back to work.

After work, back at home you were buzzing. You had just gotten off the phone with Alé and they wanted you to come in tomorrow morning for a formal interview. They asked if I could bring any other work I had saved and luckily I had a few more.

(Y/N)
I could throw up I'm so nervous for tomorrow.

Spencer
You'll be fine. From what I overheard they really liked your work. I think the interview is more of a formality.

(Y/N)
I can not thank you enough for this really.

Spencer
Honestly you're doing me a favour, you will be working as an editor for my department so you're actually helping me out.

(Y/N)
So you're obsessed with me. You just want to see me more often.

Spencer
Oh yea that's definitely i.

I'm smiling down at my phone at Spencer's answer. Obviously we are both just playing around but it's nice having a few friends here. I'm gonna miss Sam and Hanna at the cafe but I'll still go there for lunch and maybe cover some evening shifts whenever they need me.

A few hours go by and I've eaten and did some house cleaning that I needed to do. I again called my mom and told her about the events of the day.

My interview is at 10am tomorrow so I can have a shower tomorrow morning before and be fresh for the day. Before bed I got my thumb drive and transported some videos for tomorrow morning. I threw it into my purse as to not forget it.

Spencer
Goodnight (Y/N), you're gonna kill it tomorrow.

(Y/N)
Goodnight Spencer.
