The shift ended earlier than usual—1:30 AM, to be exact. Claire had clocked out at midnight, leaving me to handle the tail end of the night shift solo. By the time I locked the doors behind me, the parking lot was nearly deserted, bathed in the flickering yellow glow of the streetlights.
I let out a long sigh as I walked to my car. The cool night air felt good against my skin, chasing away the lingering heat from inside the restaurant. My playlist was already set, and as I turned the key in the ignition, the familiar beat of "All mine" by Brent Faiyaz filled the silence.
The drive home was uneventful. Empty streets, the occasional streetlamp blinking in the distance, and my headlights cutting through the dark. This part of the night had always been my favorite—quiet and still, like the city itself was taking a breath.
When I pulled into the driveway of my house, everything looked the same as always. The porch light flickered faintly, and the neighbors' homes were dark and silent. I grabbed my bag, locked the car, and headed up the steps, the wooden boards creaking softly under my feet.
Inside, the first thing I did was kick off my shoes and drop my bag by the door. My body ached from standing all night, but the familiar comfort of home helped ease the tension.
Skincare was next. I tied my hair back and went through the usual routine—cleanser, toner, moisturizer. The cool water against my skin was a small luxury after hours spent smelling like fryer oil and grease.
Finally, I changed into my comfiest pajamas: an oversized T-shirt and soft, worn sweatpants. My bed looked especially inviting as I climbed in, pulling the blankets up to my chin.
I didn't have work tomorrow—a rare day off. I'd already made plans to hit the mall and treat myself to some much-needed retail therapy.

As I closed my eyes, the last thought that crossed my mind was how odd the night had been. I mean, it usually was, but tonight was something. The guy, Gojo, had me confused.

A/N:
This chapter was all about the end of the shift! I'm sorry it's so short, I plan to make the next chapter long! Little spoiler, next one will obviously be about the mall, and you may meet someone—or some people.
