A year had passed since you became a Demon Slayer, and your training had paid off. You’d succeeded in most of your missions, earning respect from your fellow slayers. But each victory felt bittersweet as the memory of your father and the demon attack still haunted you. Despite the pain, you pushed forward, determined to honor his and your mom's memory by becoming stronger.
One day, as you returned from a grueling mission, you were summoned to meet Ubuyashiki for a hashira meeting at the Demon Slayer corp headquarters. Your heart raced as you tried to piece together why you were being called to a hashira meeting. You’d grown close to the other slayers, but you hadn't interacted with the hashira's yet.
When you arrived, Ubuyashiki gave you a warm smile. The other hashira's looked at you in curiosity as the master spoke. Shinobu was the only one who had recognized you since you came to Butterfly mansion a lot.
“L/N Y/N, you’ve done very well. Your missions have been successful, and your skills have improved greatly.” ubuyashiki began
"Thank you.."You felt a bit awkward under his gaze, unsure of what he meant.
“Because of this,” he continued, “we’d like to offer you a new opportunity. We would like you to become the Tsuguko of a Hashira.”
Your brow furrowed. The word ‘Tsuguko’ was familiar, but you weren’t entirely sure what it meant in this context. You hesitated before responding. “Tsuguko…?”
“Yes,” Ubuyashiki explained, “a Tsuguko is an apprentice to one of the Hashira. You will learn directly under them and serve as their closest assistant, honing your skills and supporting them in battle.”
You felt a sense of excitement bubble up within you. Being chosen as a Tsuguko was a big honor, but you still weren’t sure who you’d be assigned to.
“Do you have anyone in mind?” Ubuyashiki asked, his eyes sharp but kind.
You thought back to the day you’d been saved by Obanai Iguro. He had killed the demon that attacked you, bringing you to the Butterfly Mansion and saving your life. Though he had been harsh, you remembered his strength and the way he had quietly helped you when no one else did.
“Obanai Iguro,” you said without thinking, the words slipping out before you could second-guess yourself.
Ubuyashiki’s smile deepened. “A wise choice. Obanai is one of our finest swordsmen and an intelligent strategist. You will learn much from him.”
