Chapter 42: Research on Sandstorm

"Then let's get started. Try using Sandstorm first!"

Upon arriving at the laboratory, Professor Sato seemed to transform into a different person, his eyes hidden behind gold-framed glasses shining with a glimmer of wisdom.

"Okay."

Hearing Professor Sato's words, Ryoma immediately instructed the prepared Sandshrew to use Rapid Spin.

As Sandshrew began using Rapid Spin, the sand and gravel that Professor Sato had deliberately scattered on the floor began to move towards Sandshrew.

With the increasing speed of Rapid Spin, the sand and gravel started to rotate, swirling upward with a rising current!

"The violent rotation creates an updraft..." Professor Sato observed the situation in the arena and continued after a moment, "Continue."

"Sandshrew, use Sand Attack!"

Ryoma nodded and issued the command again.

As Sandshrew began to gather Ground-type energy, a gust of wind carrying sand started to form. With the pulling force of Rapid Spin, the arising dust began to swirl around Sandshrew, spiraling upward on the rising current, quickly transforming into a massive sandstorm!

"Oh, using Rapid Spin and Sand Attack moves, you can actually create such a sandstorm. Very impressive!"

Admiration shone in Professor Sato's eyes. To his knowledge, even at the vast Aloha Pokémon Academy, there were not many students capable of performing such a combination move!

"However, what does this have to do with Sandstorm? Isn't Sandstorm a Rock-type move?" Professor Sato looked at Ryoma with confusion.

"You'll see it soon, Professor Sato." Ryoma took a deep breath, then suddenly focused, saying, "Sandstorm!"

As soon as Ryoma's voice fell, the sandstorm in the arena began swirling at an even faster pace, sending sand and debris flying, causing the clothes of the three people to flap loudly and creating the illusion that they were about to be swept away!

In the next moment, the sandstorm erupted violently, wild winds swept through the arena, filling the entire research area with swirling dust!

"Rhydon, block it!"

Seeing this, Professor Sato's expression changed. As he pressed the button on his Poké Ball, a Rhydon appeared in the arena and raised its hand to block all the incoming dust!

"This is... Sandstorm weather!"

"It's incredible that you can truly create Sandstorm weather using this method!"

Looking at the sandstorm spreading in the arena and the immense winds occasionally carrying dust that whistled by, Professor Sato's expression showed disbelief.

Even though he was witnessing it firsthand, it still felt somewhat unreal!

"Rhydon, sense it and see if it's a real Sandstorm!"

Professor Sato looked at Rhydon with concern, and upon receiving a confirmatory response, his eyes filled with excitement!

The sandstorm was indeed a real sandstorm!

If he could conduct in-depth research, he might uncover the secrets of Sandstorm weather!

Thinking of this possibility, Professor Sato's gaze sparkled with joy, looking at Sandshrew as if it were his beloved wife!

The sandstorm in the arena howled, but after just over a dozen seconds, it began to slowly dissipate, revealing the ground covered in yellow sand and a panting Sandshrew.

"Phew, we did it!"

Originally somewhat nervous, Ryoma let out a sigh of relief.

On the other side, Professor Sato began tinkering with various instruments, eager to get started!

Professor Sato glanced at the panting Sandshrew and waved his hand dismissively.

Before long, a staff member brought over a box of nutritional supplies. Ryoma looked over and discovered that it was all nutrient juices.

When the nutritional juices were brought in, Sandshrew couldn't take its eyes off them.

Upon receiving permission, it quickly grabbed a bottle of nutrient juice and began to drink eagerly.

Instantly, Sandshrew's eyes brightened as it fell in love with the nutrient juices made from Secret Realm berries. It drank two bottles in a row, patting its little belly in satisfaction.

The effects of the nutrient juices were evident; after drinking two bottles, Sandshrew immediately became revitalized!

"It seems that the effect of these nutrient juices should be similar to that of energy blocks, but I wonder which one has a stronger effect." Watching Sandshrew's transformation, Ryoma thought to himself.

"Alright, since you've recovered, let's try Sandstorm again!"

On the other side, Professor Sato had already prepared all the testing instruments and immediately signaled Sandshrew to start working.

Sandshrew responded and quickly ran back into the arena to prepare once more.

Before long, a sandstorm began to take shape under the combination of Rapid Spin and Sand Attack.

Seeing the sandstorm forming, Professor Sato immediately began to operate the instruments in his hands, recording the changes in energy in the arena.

Ryoma leaned in closer and saw that the instruments displayed an image resembling thermal imagery. It clearly showed a gray-white energy and a brown energy coalescing in the center of the arena.

"Gray-white and brown..."

"If I'm not mistaken, this should be Normal-type energy and Ground-type energy!" Ryoma surmised in his mind.

Then, he continued to observe the energy distribution on the instruments, and was surprised to find that as the tornado continued to swirl, the brown wave of energy became increasingly intense. A powerful vibration radiated out, overpowering the gray-white wave of energy, filling the entire energy distribution map with brown!

Once this energy coalesced to a peak, Sandshrew let out a sudden low roar, causing the spinning sandstorm to explosively shatter, erupting into countless grains of sand that swept outward!
